An excellent vacation in Costa Rica

We felt we got the best out of Costa Rica during our 12 day visit. From the Caribbean to the Pacific through the central valley to the volcanoes and rain and cloud forests which make it such a diverse country. Hotels and lodges were good.Guided trips were informative.Bird life was exceptional. We have seldom seem so much without excessive travel. Without exception the Costa Ricans were pleased to see us.

Two weeks in Costa Rica, Central America. One on Atlantic Coast visiting Tortuguero and Cahuita National Parks and one in san Jose meeting friends

Flora and fauna quite amazing and more than I saw while living there for 3 years, 30 years ago. Costa Ricans are naturally friendly and we had only good experiences with locals and those working in the tourist industry.

Alcion Discovery Tour with Journey Latin America

We were expecting the time of our lives, had paid as a couple £1200 per week with no flights and only breakfast included, for a 3 week trip around the highlights of Central America. We were given the worst accommodation we have ever had on a trip, cold showers, dirty, noisy, dark rooms. three days in Bocas Del Toros also is truly not necessary, a night in Boquete, also a waste of time. Think you could do better than this tour, so would not recommend ...

The initial comms were very efficient but I have had no response about my dissatisfaction with the tour since returning, no remarks on my poor feedback survey? Guess they are only I terested in you whilst you are about to give them money, the way of the world today, so don't expect anything extra!

Journey Latin America / Journeyscape responded to this review on 09 Feb 2015:

We’re most disappointed to read this. On our Discovery Journeys, we use a variety of simple family-run hotels and guesthouses, several with authentic character though, as we endeavour to make clear in our literature for this holiday, we are required to use more functional properties at times in off-the-beaten track areas where tourist infrastructure is more fledgling in nature. That said, we expect all hotels to be comfortable, clean and fit the tour profile. Feedback from this tour is generally very positive. However, on the basis of your feedback we are undertaking a thorough review into the particular properties you were unhappy with.

We’re also sorry to read that you didn’t enjoy two of the destinations in Panama. People do normally enjoy Bocas del Toro (though I understand that your visit unfortunately coincided with torrential rain and high winds). The highland town of Boquete is largely a necessary positioning night.

Journey Latin America / Journeyscape responded to this review on 09 Feb 2015:

We’re genuinely sorry you have been left with the impression that we are not interested in your comments. We welcome feedback and observations of every kind, and indeed, it is our policy to investigate and respond in detail to all customer correspondence within 2 weeks. We are currently obtaining updated hotel inspection reports, feedback from the tour leader and liaising with the hotels themselves and will respond to your completed questionnaire directly once our investigation is complete.

An amazing introduction to Central America

This was a very interesting and well organised visit to 6 countries in 3 weeks. We packed a lot in but it still felt relaxing and unrushed.

All members of staff were helpful, knowledgeable and professional from the planning stages, dealing with last minute flight cancellations due to air traffic control closure, a missed flight connection due to late arrival of flight to Miami, and a brilliant tour - once I arrived!

Dreams come true - a holiday of a lifetime!

Very impressed with the friendly and professional company "Journey Latin America". Our holiday from initial investigation through to booking and the holiday itself went without a hitch. The smoothness of the organisation added to the enjoyment of this amazing holiday.

Well co-ordinated across 6 countries

We flew to Panama and over the following 4 weeks worked our way northwards on a schedule that enabled us to explore Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras and finally Guatamala.

Amazing trip to Patagonia

This trip was a retirement treat - much more upmarket than anything we have done before and we were not disappointed. The itinerary was busy but not exhausting and the sights as thrilling as we hoped. The food was excellent everywhere and the wine as you would expect from such a world class production area.

JLA couldn't have been more helpful - offering an entirely different service from any tour operator we have dealt with in the past. We picked a bespoke tour rather than a package and were impressed with the difference.

I had long planned a trip to South America to mark my retirement, and was lucky enough to be able to share the experience with a group of friends with similar aspirations. We are a group of 5 couples, each couple planning a slightly different itinerary -- I was responsible for collating the plans, and liaising with Journey Latin America to come up with a final bespoke itinerary. Plans were drawn up 18 months or so before our planned departure, giving us ample time for research and discussion to optimise our plans; our JLA representative, Margot Chard, was pivotal in enabling us to realise our aspirations, and to make the most of our time away. Our final plans comprised of a core 3 week trip to Peru, with each couple having additional add on journeys variously to the Amazon, Galápagos Islands, Bolivia, Chile (Atacama, Santiago and Patagonia), Argentina (Buenos Aires, Patagonia) and Iguazu falls. High altitude treks in Peru (Lares and Inca trails) and travel across the Bolivian Salar were facilitated through adequate acclimatisation beforehand, and we were very grateful for this when we came across other less well-prepared travellers. Time away varied for each couple, from 3 to almost 7 weeks travelling. Between us we experienced some of the most iconic wonders on earth, from historic sites such as Machu Picchu in Peru and Tikanawu in Bolivia to the natural wonders of the Amazon, the Salar de Uyuni, Perito Moreno glacier, Torres del Paine national park, El Chalten, Bariloche and Iguazu falls. Trekking through the Lares valley, we met local people and were privileged to share some of their lives in their homesteads, and hear their stories through our Quechua-speaking guide, and watch them weaving on their back-strap looms in the field as they tended their grazing animals. It was an experience like no other, and which will never be forgotten.

Rating for tour operator:

Journey Latin America listened to what each of us wanted to achieve through our time away, and came up with proposals to make the most of our available time. They subcontract to local providers in each locality, but clearly communication is excellent as we were always expected at each destination, and transfers and guides were always waiting for us. All hotel arrangements were excellent, with accommodation virtually always exceeding that expected. Transport and guides, whether shared or private was always well organised, and we felt confident that if there were to be any unexpected event, then a solution would be found. This proved to be the case towards the very end of our trip where our intended flight was cancelled by the airline. The local agency made alternative plans on our behalf, and we were able to safely return to Buenos Aires in time for our final flight home. We were all impressed with the arrangements made on our behalf by Journey Latin America, and would have no hesitation in recommending them to others intending to travel to South America.
