Our guide, being from Cuzco and of Incan ancestry, was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable and showed us all sorts of interesting places off the beaten track - such as an an animal sanctuary and a local 'pub' where chicha (local beer) was being made - bringing the people and their culture to life, so that the tour was a long way from being a week of dry historical appreciation.
Rating for tour operator:Journey Latin America organizes and plans tours like ours and many others. They do so to a high standard and in my opinion are a truly professional tour operator.
Overall a very enjoyable holiday
Our tour leader Cesar, was great - competent, considerate, well organised and he formed a really good rapport with our small group of 13 participants, which got on well together. Hotel accommodation was good, although there was no hot water in our room for 3 successive hotels/lodges (6 nights) in Costa Rica. Hotel accommodation was good, although there was no hot water in our room for 3 successive hotels/lodges (6 nights) in Costa Rica. There was a paucity of wild life at the reserves near to these lodges, with sightings of birds and mammals being significantly less than we expected. Perhaps we were unlucky as some other members of our group had better experiences.

Guyana is a rustic, old-school, holiday destination.
We had a 9 night tour of the interior of Guyana, sandwiched between two stays in Georgetown.
