Amalfi Coast self-guided hike

The hike around the Amalfi Coast was fabulous. We encountered a variety of terrain, from steps to rocks to sheep paths, but all were well marked. It was nice to be on our own during the day (very few hikers when we were there) and then arrive in a village full of energy each afternoon. The views along this hike are spectacular. It was nice to be on our own during the day (very few hikers when we were there) and then arrive in a village full of energy each afternoon. The views along this hike are spectacular. Each day was designed to be able to accommodate all levels of ability. We chose the the more challenging options and the extra day which we thoroughly enjoyed. The villages were beautiful and the people were very friendly. This was a wonderful way to explore the Amalfi Coast. The way On Foot Holidays designed this route, hikers of all ages could thoroughly enjoy it.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot Holidays is a very professional tour operator and I would highly recommend them. They gave us an abundance of material in advance to help us on our hike. The daily route directions were clearly written. The hotels and baggage service were very good. On Foot was easy to deal with and always responded promptly.

Priorat -a walking holiday along old monastery trails

The holiday was an independent walking holiday. All the arrangements were well organised and the route notes very detailed so that we could go at our own pace. We stayed in small hotels in mountain villages and small towns It was active but relaxing and a very enjoyable holiday.

A Wonderful Way to Explore Amalfi

Our on Foot Holidays Amalfi hiking tour very much lived up to our expectations. The hotels were all at a minimum very good and several were outstanding. The hiking itineraries were well organized and easy to follow (especially when we paid attention!). Several alternates are offered for each day which is helpful. This is a beautiful area and the views are outstanding. Not to mention that we found the food and wine almost always wonderful...

We stayed two extra nights in Sorrento and visited Herculaneum and Capri which should not be missed. This was our second On Foot Holidays tour.

Rating for tour operator:

Three things come to mind about On Foot Holidays. 1. They communicate very well with their clients. 2. The hotels and inns they use have always been as described and have very much met our expectations. 3. The descriptions of the hikes are well thought out and provided in an easy to use and durable format.

The walk was challenging at times with some steep climbs but the views from the top were well worth the effort. Our days were filled with charming villages, numerous castles, steep hillside vineyards, the Rhine snaking it's way though the gorge below and the ever changing vistas. We are so fortunate to have seen this beautiful part of the world. Walking is the only way you can truly experience a place.

My husband and I had another holiday planned which was unexpectedly cancelled. So with only 2 months to revise our plans I found "On Foot Holidays" on the web, read their excellent reviews and called them. Debbie couldn't have been more helpful. She recommended the perfect walk for us and was able to confirm all the accommodations within days. Not only did she plan our walk but she had some wonderful ideas of where to go & what to see before and after. The Castles of the Rhine information package that was mailed to us was excellent and a vital part of our successful walk. The maps were accurate and the detailed daily planner kept us on the path. They also sent a booklet with the history and information about the area, the castles, the towns that we would see along the route. Thanks to On Foot for a memorable week on the Rhine! I would definitely book another walk with them in the future and would highly recommend this company.

In Lopud our host, Gabi met us and took us to our lovely little flat with a balcony overlooking a pretty little garden. We were late in the season so unfortunately the only supermarket had closed for the winter the day before. Gabi very kindly made us picnic lunches for our walking days. She also provided us with a full breakfast every morning which really set us up for the day! We ate out in the Glavović, the only restaurant open in the evening and enjoyed freshly caught fish and local wine. It is well worth a visit as the service is friendly and the food excellent. On the first day we climbed up to the fort and had amazing views across the bay and the island. The map kept us on track and we only got lost a couple of times. We loved the little chapels which nestle among the hills. Our second day took us round the south side of the island and that was my favourite walk. We stopped several times to sit and just absorb the view and the peace. We got our swim at Sunj and the water was warm and clear. There is a cash machine in Lopud. In Sirpan our hotel stay was luxurious and we enjoyed using the pool after a hard day’s walking. The weather was overcast but we had two great walks up in the hills. There were glorious views of the sea along the high paths on the way up towards Luka. We were also incredibly lucky to find the church at Pakljena open as it was so beautiful inside. We were sad to leave the islands but Dubrovnik was interesting and quite different. We were taken to our apartment in the old city. It was quiet and central and spotlessly clean. We took the cable car to the fort and looked at the exhibition about the war. We thought it could have been made more interesting if there had been a narration explaining the history and video footage but it was still worth a visit. On our last day we explored Dubrovnic, walking round the walls and sightseeing in the city.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot Holidays is an excellent tour operator. I particularly appreciated being able to talk through our holiday with their team. They were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They were really interested in finding exactly the right kind of walking holiday for us. Our information pack with tour details and maps arrived in good time and they telephoned just before we left to make sure we had everything we needed.

Apparently it is nearly always shut. We were sad to leave the islands but Dubrovnik was interesting and quite different. We took the cable car to the fort and looked at the exhibition about the war. We thought it could have been made far more interesting if there had been a narration explaining the history and video footage. We took a day out to go to Montenegro. Darko escorted us and was very knowledgeable about Croatian history and about Montenegro itself. He took us to Kotor where we had a wonderful time exploring the old town. The route we took was beautiful and the weather was perfect. On our last day we explored Dubrovnic, walking round the walls and sightseeing in the city. Thanks to all the team for putting together such a worthwhile and fun holiday, and to all out hosts who took such care of us and made our trip so memorable.

Rating for tour operator:

Viator were extremely good at making our holiday run smoothly. They were very helpful in their advice about such things as where to eat and arranged a special trip into Montenegro for us. Our guide was knowledgeable and pleasant and made the day fun. Our appartment was spotlessly clean and its central location made exploring the city easy.
