A first-rate, well organised long distance walk from north of the Appenines to the Ligurian coast at Camogli.

There were six days of moderate to vigorous self-guided walking, including some substantial climbs, starting in Lombardy and passing through part of Piedmont, finishing in Liguria. We were provided with excellent and clear route notes and maps plus other equipment such as a good quality map case. We were provided with excellent and clear route notes and maps plus other equipment such as a good quality map case. The accommodation was arranged for us as was the transfer of our luggage from place to place. The route was well planned by people who were up-to-date with the current state of conditions along the route. There was a local contact, contactable by phone, who was available to give advice and assistance should we have required it. The accommodation had all been vetted and was good, very good or excellent both in quality and in terms of value for money, likewise the food. The accommodation was interestingly varied - two hotels, two private houses, one village inn, 1 agritourismo.

Rating for tour operator:

The staff are friendly, efficient and very helpful when planning a holiday as they know the routes from first-hand experience. Many of them have walked the routes themselves. Should I phone and speak first to someone who does not have such detailed knowledge I am always passed straight to someone who does. I have full confidence in them to furnish me accurately with the information I need.

Frendly, efficient and tailor made

A self guided walking holiday along part of the Lycian Way. A lovely trail through pine woods with beautiful veiws of the coast. The accomodation was excellent and the bags were moved on to the next destination leaving us with a day sac to carry. There was no problems but felt that the lady running the office in Antalya would help as she contacted us on the first day to make sure all was ok. Friendly and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble. They always returned a phone call when they said - a rare thing.

Fantastic walking in back of beyond places, backed up by superb places to stay and eat, all supported by friendly staff and efficient organisation.

We walked for a week in mid April in Catalonia, from medieval Besalu, completing an almost round trip through ancient volcanic landscapes and dramatic limestone scenery. We walked for a week in mid April in Catalonia, from medieval Besalu, completing an almost round trip through ancient volcanic landscapes and dramatic limestone scenery. We then (independently) drove across France and the Camargue to the French Alpes, near the Italian border, to walk for another week with 'OnFoot Holidays' through forests and foothills following the Roya valley down to Menton on the Mediterranean Sea. Both trips included walking through wonderful forests, up steep mountainsides, incredibly beautiful pastures full of wild flowers, wild daffodils and orchids, alongside rivers, and through spectacular gorges. We found ourselves in very remote places, coming across hidden villages high up in the mountains, always walking along well marked but little used paths, and efficiently guided by 'On Foot''s maps and information sheets. We stayed in lovely little hotels and bed and breakfasts, all with friendly people who did their best to make our stays very comfortable. They provided packed luches where necessary. There was an option to opt out of the days walk and travel with the luggage any day. The luggage was transfered usually by the hotel we had stayed in, and was waiting for us on arrival at the next night's stop. The information sheets were fantastic - just enough to make sure you were on the right track, but not too much to lose the sense of adventure. It felt like a treasure hunt, where you had to interpret clues and find the correct path onward..

'On Foot Holidays' were wonderful from beginning to end. They were friendly and informative over the phone on first contact, and continued to give advice and support through my dealings with them. The information for the trip, containing maps and daily instructions and walking routes (broken down into morning and afternoon) was sent in good time before the trip. The organisation of the trip was fautless, both in Catalonia and France. We had no glitches at all. Each hotel was aware of our booking, and waiting for us on our weary arrival, They were all good, with one or two outstanding, and were well chosen by 'On Foot' to be perfect for the job. On our return the 'On Foot' staff were interested to hear about our trip, and encouraged us to send them feedback and photos. We are very much looking forward to another trip with them again next year.

Beautiful scenery, vigorous exercize, great service and experience

We walked the Amalfi Coast for 7 days using On Foot Holidays itinerary and service. We enjoyed the experience thoroughly. There was a great balance between the vigor of climbing, the exhilaration of scenic beauty, history and agriculture, with lovely places to unwind at day's end. All the hotel transfers and reservation arrangements went off flawlessly. We will definitely book with OFH again.

A challenging and extremely rewarding experience revealing the Amalfi Coast from the inside.

We enjoyed an 8-day hiking trek from Amalfi to Sorrento with a couple of extra days in Sorrento to visit Capri and the area archaeology sites. Our B and B's matched the excellent weather, and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting many wonderful Italians and fellow tourists along the way. And of course the Italians seem to eat better than many of the rest of us.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot Holidays selected a fine group of hotels for our accommodations and our luggage was transferred smoothly from one destination to the next. The hiking trails offered several options and a variety of challenges in some quite rugged areas along the spectacular Amalfi Coast. The directions and various printed materials provided by OFH gave us a good basic set of resources for getting around and taking full advantage of this great area. All our arrangements were promptly and professionally handled.

The hotels chosen by On Foot were wonderful - small, family-owned and friendly. I enjoyed wonderful friendly hosts at these hotels, and some excellent regional food. The scenery in this part of Provence is wild and dramatic. My highlight were the villages pendent, with their narrow, stone pathways and ancient churches.

I felt like I had personal attention from the various people at On Foot. When I emailed On Foot with a question about the GPS software provided by the company, someone from On Foot almost immediately phoned me (I live in the US) to make sure I received the help I needed.

Amalfi coastal walk

I booked a walking holiday in Amalfi with On Foot Holidays and found it all to be excellent, from airport taxis, to luggage transfers, walking instructions, and especially help with upgrading the hotels we stayed at. We now have the bug for walking holidays and will be using On Foot again.

I decided to book a self-guided Rhine Gorge Walk for September 2013 as part of a European holiday and on my first visit to Germany. Initially I was a little apprehensive about how to travel to the commencement of the Walk following a long flight from Australia. However, my fears were soon dispelled as I had no difficulty in travelling from Frankfurt Airport to the village of Bingen, the commencement of the Walk, using the timetables and information provided in the information package. I found that the route taken along the Rhine was historically and geographically interesting, and I enjoyed the varied scenery. The villages along the route were beautiful and I was fortunate to experience a number of annual festivals along the way. Everything went smoothly with luggage transfer and, with one exception, the accommodation was very good in friendly small hotels ( On Foot had indicated in advance that difficulties had been experienced at the location where the accommodation did not meet my expectations).

Rating for tour operator:

This is the third self-guided walk that I have undertaken, and the first I have booked with On Foot Holidays. I found On Foot to be very professional and friendly in responding promptly to my initial and ongoing enquires. The walking notes, including the timetables and information on how to get to the commencement and return from the end of the Walk were accurate and easy to follow. I also found the information booklets which included historic information on the route traversed very useful. I enjoy the concept of self guided walks, and would not hesitate in booking future Walks with On Foot if they operate one in the location I choose for my next European holiday.
