Peru has so much to discover

I loved serene Lake Sandoval and the wildlife in the jungle. I loved the atmosphere in Cusco - so much to do, many museums and history, and I loved my hotel Rumi Punko. Amazing Inca and pre-Colombian art and architecture, then the colonial Spanish forced influence, the Condors, and Arequipa, Amazing panoramas on Lake Titicaca riding on the speed boat roof.

Rating for tour operator:

Journey Latin America were excellent, helping us design our holiday so that we could include a trip to see my son and family who are currently living in Florianopolis, as well as get to see as much of Rio and Buenos Aires as possible in the short time we were there. I have a mobility problem which prevents me from walking far or standing for more than a few minutes, therefore JLA arranged private tours where I could go at my own pace.

Fabulous experience in Peru & Bolivia

The holiday covered all three eco climates and landscapes in Peru with the added benefit a visit to Bolivia. A well thought out comprehensive and diverse holiday covering the dessert, the Andes and the Amazon Rainforest. It covered cities (Lima, La Paz, Arequipa), wildlife (Colca Canyon condors & the Amazon), different cultures (Uros Reed Islands, The Sacred Valley, La Paz) and wonderful history (The Inca's - Machu Piccho & Cuzco, Sun Island ...

The finer details were managed superbly by the Tour Company, Journey Latin America and our tour guide and used local guides for all daily tours. Fabulous

A real flavour of Panama City in four locations, put together ably by JLA and delivered by Ancon Expeditions

Having bought a bargain airfare, I turned to JLA to draw up a schedule. I visited Boquete in the highlands, Bocas del Toro in the Caribbean and the Gamboa Rainforest Resort before transiting the Canal and touring the city. It was fascinating and enjoyable - one of the best-ever holidays.

Memorable Trip to Peru

Our second trip to Peru, we did a bespoke trip to visit the lesser known Pre-Inca sites in the North that have recently been excavated and got off the beaten track. We then went up into the stunning Andes and enjoyed the Gocta waterfall, the new cable car to the amazing Kuelap and many other sites, all accompanied by our excellent guide but hardly any foreign tourists. Finally we relaxed at the Inkaterra on the Madre Dios; a fantastic experience of the jungle, that combined comfort with rainforest immersion.

Rating for tour operator:

Journey Latin America are a specialist in the region and this was our fifth trip with them. Planning was easy, as they are knowledgeable, efficient and helpful. On this occasion they helped move our trip back a year, due to family illness, which we really appreciated. Their partners on the ground were all excellent and the quality of guides first class with very good English. We will definitely be using them again for both group and bespoke travel.

Four weeks in Colombia

We travelled to Bogotà, Villa de Leyva, the Amazonas, Pereira and the coffee region, Medellín, Cartagena and Tayrona National Park. We had an amazing experience discovering the scenery, birdlife, fruits and indigenous cultures of Colombia. Our guides were very knowledgeable and happy to answer all sorts of questions about Colombian culture.

Great destinations, but overall organisation by Journey/Responsible Travel was poor causing lack of co-ordination between local tour providers

We booked a group tour to South America (Rio, Iguazu, Asuncion, La Paz, Lake Titicaca, Puno, Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Lima). Local guides were generally good and the tours were mainly well run with good transportation. Hotels were generally good in reasonable locations.

We paid our deposit in Feb and were later assured even if the trip didn't fill up beyond the 3 people booked at that point, then it would still go ahead with a guide. After we paid full balance in May, unknown person #3 dropped out and Journey cancelled the group tour and offered a private tour for 2 instead. Took quite a bit of time and emails to get the full itinerary with included trips reinstated. Lack of full time guide was big disadvantage for us as local operators only knew their part of our itinerary. Most weren't interested in checking our onward arrangements. We didn't get picked up by the guide at a bus station in Paraguay and this was stressful to hang around. Another operator changed our hotel but didn't notify Journey about this. We relied on hotel receptionists to check with local companies as we didn't speak Spanish.

Journey Latin America / Journeyscape responded to this review on 21 Sep 2018:

We're pleased you had a nice time in Latin America though disappointed the original tour was cancelled and for the confusion at the booking stage of your trip. All our group tours run with a minimum of 4 people which was referred to in our proposal documentation and emails. However, we can arrange tailor-made tours in the care of our trusted local representatives and English speaking guides on the rare occasions the required minimum numbers are not reached, as was the case here. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.

As our local representatives are specialists in each country, they may not always have recourse to onward arrangements in neighbouring countries, though a full briefing is always provided in each new destination, local contact details provided and we're always available by email or phone should you have had any queries.

I was also sorry you experienced a delay in Paraguay and that a burst water pipe meant you were moved hotel at short notice. We, and our local representatives, were aware and ensured you were upgraded on the ground though we shall of course try to minimise such occurrences in the future and will take onboard all of your feedback to improve. On a more positive note, we are pleased you were happy with the destinations, tours, guides, transportation and hotels included on your itinerary.
