Very good journey via Eurostar Leeds to Aaghen, two overmights to break the joruney in Aachen, then 7 days in Lucerne in a superb hotel above the lake (with a 4 day Tell Pass on trains, cable cars, rack railways boats and buses we bought overselves). Return with one overnight in Cologne. Travel and hotel arrangements all excellent and infirmtion beautifully presented.

We have used Ffestionig over a 30 year period and for rail travel they are unequalled - reliable and efficient, take all the hassle out of do it yourself web bookings and payments.

Well planned

It was an enjoyable experience. By using the hotels for bed and breakfast only gave much more freedom of movement to do 'ones own thing' after the arranged rail trips had been completed each day.

Communications, from booking the holiday onwards, were always very clear and straightforward. I was pleased that I had been able to change my holiday booking without any fuss or financial penalty. Nice people to deal with.

Overall the holiday was good and most things went according to plan.

It was a two week specialist railfan holiday to eastern Germany. Problems encountered were nothing to do with the tour organiser, but bad management at Inter City Hotel in Wuppertal where they closed the restaurant without warning, having already asked if we would be eating there, and being advised that twenty or so, so would be doing so.

I have found the operator to be very good. Information is clear and the tours are well lead.

A fantastically entertaining interlude playing with East Germany's Narrow Gauge steam railways.

This tour to sample the delights of Narrow Gauge Steam Railways of Eastern Germany was a fantastic holiday experience. The schedule ran like clockwork, hotels were of a fine standard and even the weather behaved. Ffestiniog continue to deliver high quality tours and I certainly shall have no hesitation to travel with them again.

I have been travelling with Ffestiniog Travel for many years and have found them to be nothing other than exceptional at organising and delivering a great holiday experience. I normally take tailor made holidays through this company and this was the first group trip I have taken. I will not hesitate to book another and would recommend this company to anyone who appreciates a professional and uniquely personal holiday experience.

Excellent tour by rail of eastern Germany

A well planned two-week escorted group tour by rail. There were three main bases in eastern Germany from which forays were made to local narrow gauge railways and other places of interest. The hotels were well chosen for their location and facilities and all had English-speaking staff. Travel was made predominantly by rail using an Interrail pass, which gave both simplicity and flexibility, and the itinerary ran flawlessly. The tour leader was ...

Rating for tour operator:

Ffestiniog Travel excels in organising rail-based holidays for both individuals and groups. It is a large enough organisation to be able to have staff with a range of specialities but is small enough to ensure that each customer can be offered personal attention.

Tramways of the Low Countries

We visited the tram networks of Belgium and the Netherlands. We rode at our leisure and visited several tramway museums. All our travel was by rail.

Most enjoyable holiday in a group envoirement.

Irish Circular tour, visiting both Ireland and Northern Ireland by rail and coach travel, with a group of eighteen people. Mainly aimed at people interested in railways, which I am.
