We had a four day break in Hamburg for the Christmas markets, travelling by train from London. This worked well apart from some travel disruption (see below). We had an ideally placed hotel opposite the Hauptbahnhof in Hamburg, from which we were able to visit the Christmas markets and do some most enjoyable sightseeing, which included a trip round the harbour, the Speicherstadt and Miniatur Wünderland - the world's largest model railway. We did all we had hoped to do and the weather was kind to us.

Ffestiniog Travel were very efficient and gave us a quote and suggested itinerary within 24 hours of our enquiry. Travel documents arrived about 10 days before departure, which was reassuring. We were very impressed that they phoned us during our outward journey to warn of a derailment between Aachen and Köln of which we were previously unaware. We were able to travel by an alternative route with two hours delay, which did not affect what we had planned for our holiday.

A well organised company, very approachable and receptive to accommodate minor personal changes to the basic itinerary. We were provided with a great and very helpful tour guide. The operator provided plenty of timely and useful information beforehand. The tour went exactly as described in the tour brouchure.

I enjoyed my visits to Paris, Basel, Lucerne, Milan, Pisa, Rome (briefly), Sulmona (PoW camp), Pescara and Ancona, all en route. My favourite places were Basel, Lucerne, Pisa, and Sulmona (the camp). Travelling by train was so much better than flying or driving, and less stressful. The main target, my visit to the PoW camp, was brilliantly guided by a professional historian. I and six other visitors spent almost three hours on site. The town of Sulmona is a typical regional Italian town, very welcoming.

Ffestiniog Travel produced a great itinerary, with every train and every hotel detailed, in order, in a handy A5 size wallet. That gave me great confidence before I set off. I had never done a solo trip like this before, but I am thinking already about doing another! I would certainly use Ffestiniog Travel’s services again.

Travelled by train from Cardiff to the following places : Brussels, Stuttgart, Attersee, Bruck an der Mur , Munich, Frankfurt and back home again.

We gave them an idea of our itinerary and they came up with a final schedule very quickly and we had an enjoyable time.
