'One of our best walking holidays EVER

I had spotted The Ligurian Old Salt Route trip with On Foot Holidays in a copy of the Week and immediately contacted friends to organise a trip. I had spotted The Ligurian Old Salt Route trip with On Foot Holidays in a copy of the Week and immediately contacted friends to organise a trip. From the moment our adventure began we enjoyed every second. The views and ridge walking were the highlight, but only by a whisker. The accommodation was completely varied but without exception the warmth of welcome and the standard of hospitality and food were incredible. We were a group well into our 60's and two over 70 and we are regular mountaineers and walkers ... One of the party leads in Europe and worldwide for a walking company and the instructions and maps were faultless. We were really sad to reach the end as we had enjoyed our (sometimes challenging and strenuous) walks each day with the anticipation of the reward at the end of the day with a new and exciting Albergo, Private home, mountain hotel etc. The memories and photos are a constant reminder of our wonderful holiday and the talk is now of which of On Foot Walking's to book next year! Brilliant and efficient company.

Rating for tour operator:

From the initial enquiry we found everything about On Foot Holidays efficient and helpful. The pack of maps and guidance notes were great and they even included a map holder which was most useful. The website covers all the details, one might need to know and all aspects were well documented. They have a great knack of selecting accommodation of the highest standard even if only two star and in villages away from the tourist hotspots so that we could glimpse the real Italy with its culture and cuisine.

Brilliant walking holiday in Portugal

Absolutely amazing walking holiday in unspoilt Northern Portugal! Beautiful villages, stunning scenery and delicious food. It's very hard to beat a lovely walk in gorgeous scenery, followed by an evening in a quiet village with only the odd cow passing along the road for traffic and enjoying good food, good wine and good company!

Everything was organised quickly and efficiently by the extremely friendly and helpful staff of On-Foot both at the office in England and on the ground in Portugal. I particularly appreciated being able to talk to them about the walk before we booked as one of our party has quite severe vertigo and it was great to be able to chat through the walk with someone who had done it recently in order to ensure this wouldn't be a problem. Nothing seemed too much trouble for them, from ensuring allergies were catered for, to adding a last minute addition at very short notice. Would strongly recommend. This was my 3rd holiday with them and I know I will be back!

a well organised and enjoyable walk in Portugal

On Foot has planned a wonderful walk in the northern Portuguese hills with charming local hotels; well catered with local produce and wine. Interesting to be in rural un-touristed areas with outstanding scenery and friendly people.

The walk started in Palma and was across the TRAMUNTANA mountain range, along old cobblestone paths and mule tracks. , finishing in the mountain town of ALARO. We stayed in Banyulbafar , perched amongst ancient terracing and surrounded by Mulvasia vines,. fashionable Valdermossa,, the gateway to the Archdukes Path, probably one of the most spectacular walks we have ever experienced. Onto Soller, surrounded by orange and lemon groves,, walking the Biarranc de BINIARAIX, then to ALARO though craggy olive groves. We experienced tradition Mallorquina food and tapas, as well as sophisticated fusion food, using the wonderful range of local ingredients,. We would thoroughly recommend this walking adventure.

Rating for tour operator:

This was our 4th walk with On Foot Holidays. We are Australian, and have found the company excellent, There is a lot of competition out their for tha active traveller market, and we have used other walking tour operators. What makes On Foot. Stand out is they design the walks,, walk the trails regularly ,and have excellent contacts on the ground locally. The walking and trip notes are excellent and they are constantly updating you, even when on the trail. Any problems are rapidly solved., and you know when you contact the office that they know where their walkers are and when they are travelling. An outstanding service . Unfortunately a lot of other tour operators are subcontractors and really have no insight into their clients needs, and some know very little about the routes they are offering. On Foot is unique in the service they offer and also in the routes they offer, which is unspoilt Europe.

Portugal: Walking the wild hill country

We booked our holiday with OnFoot Holidays of Salisbury, England. Starting at Soajo with a circular walk, then walking to Lindoso, Brufe, Campo do Geres, Emaus, and Santa Maria de Bouro. We were enchanted by the scenery in the hill country. Most days, we did not see another person, or hear a motor vehicle, only bird-song, and cow bells. It was delightful.

OnFoot's arrangements were excellent, and we loved the B&B's at which we stayed. The routes are well designed so as to be scenically varied, and challenging but "do-able" within the normal hours of daylight. If a day's route is longer than usual, the route instructions will detail "short cuts". This is the fifth walk that we have done with OnFoot, and we have always found their maps and route instructions to be detailed and excellent. Their instructions give the name of a person whom one can telephone if one needs help or advice. We would recommend OnFoot to anyone contemplating trying a walking holiday for the first time.

OnFoot staff is wonderful! They answer all inquiries very quickly, both before and during the holiday . They are very familiar with the walks, and they have a knack for finding accommodation with lovely, helpful people. We've used OnFoot before for a walking holiday, and we're looking forward to using them again.

Awesome hiking on the Amalfi Coast and Sorrentine Peninsula

We could design it to our own specifications so in two weeks spent on the Peninsula we hiked for 7 days and went sightseeing for the rest of the time. During those 7 days - we hiked 117 kilometres and climbed the equivalent of 1,342 flights of stairs through the most stunning landscape you could imagine - houses clinging to mountainsides, serpentine paths snaking through little almost medieval villages and stairs climbing and climbing into the clouds (We kept track do our distances with our Fitbit). That didn't include our most beautiful walk on Capri that was about 10 km all along the Western shore, ending at the Blue Grotto. Our walking notes from On Foot Holiiday were superb and kept us on track - they were so detailed and exact. If we ever felt slightly unsure we could check the GPS waypoints that we had for the trails. The accommodation booked for us was excellent. I can't say enough about how much we loved this holiday - it was awesome in the true sense of the word. Huge thanks to On Foot Holidays for doing such a superb job of planning organizing and implementing All in all this was a most excellent holiday - awesome in the truest sense of the word.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot holidays is a company that operates out of the UK. We founds them by chance looking on the Internet and we liked what they offered. We were very late in booking (only a month in advance) and they were still able to do everything for us at the last minute and were always available by email or phone for questions and last minute organization. The maps and walking notes they provided for us were perfect - very detailed - it was impossible to get lost. They also provided us with bus timetables, ferry timetables as well as train timetables. And as I say we were late organizing this and they got everything to us in Canada in plenty of time - excellent daily maps, and general walking map of the area plus a carrying case to take whilst walking plus copious notes and background material. Plus the accommodation they booked for us was pretty near perfect.

As well as dramatic Rhine views from well above the river, we learned a great deal about this historic and incredibly busy waterway. We stayed in a good selection of hotels along the Rhine: a couple of them produced delectable dinners of Michelin star quality. A bonus of this route was the discovery of several excellent Café Konditorei:with so many kilometres behind us we felt entirely justified in a little indulgence!

This was our fifth "Unspoilt Europe Waiting for You" walk with On Foot Holidays. The walks have always been well organised and live up to their unspoilt Europe billing. Everything we need is perfectly organised: we have access to help if we want or need it but to date instructions and compass have always got us to our destination with some lovely accommodation surprises at the end of the day's walking. We have always found the On Foot staff helpful and knowledgeable and in the case of this holiday particularly so: we had to cancel a walk at fairly short notice last year for health reasons and a great deal of effort was made by On Foot Holidays to unwind a planned holiday and start again with a new booking for some months later.

Self guided walk along the Lycian coast of Turkey

This was a five day walk along a section of rugged and unspoilt coastline. Accommodation was pre arranged and our luggage was shuttled ahead of us. Onfoot provided maps and directions as well as a booklet of useful and interesting information. The accommodation was excellent and we did not get lost. The terrain, views, ruins and beaches made the walk a great experience.

Onfoot was very helpful and easy to work with. They have a personal touch that gives a feeling of confidence which in practice turns out to be well placed; their organisation and arrangements all worked perfectly. The information they provided was very useful and interesting. They also provided local back-up which was reassuring but not required in our instance.
