Beautiful Lundy

We spent four days on this lovely island, walking and exploring and looking at wildlife. We identified 74 species of plant, caught and identified (and released) moths, observed seals loafing on the beach, and watched many seabirds including puffins in their breeding areas.

Great experience at a slow pace

It was the first one of its type in southern Spain. Having two Knee replacements limits me to the type of bird holiday I can do. It was full of fantastic bird adventures at my pace. In the afternoons it was culture about the area. Which was optional so you could also do your own thing if you wanted. The hotel was very good, situated in the town so you were minutes away from restaurants, shops and places to visit. I really enjoyed the slow pace ...

This was the first time I had used Naturetrek, I will use them again. The local tour leader Luis was vey knowledgeable of where to find the birds. He had also sourced different restaurants each night to give a taste of all Malaga's special dishes. Rob the English tour guide was very helpful with anything that was needed. Also full of bird knowledge and they were able to answer any questions that we asked. They took the worry out the trip so you didn't have think about anything, apart from having a fantastic holiday.

Wildlife watching in Ardnamurchan in the Spring

We spent a week in Glenborrodale Bunk House on Ardnamurchan peninsula as part of a group of 14 people. We had 2 enthusiastic guides/leaders who took us out in 2 minibuses to look for the wildlife in the area. We saw a wide variety of birds, otters, deer and pine martens.

The Perfect Trip

A weeks holiday in the Spanish Pyrenees looking at the wildlife and flora of the area. The accommodation in Berdun was a comfortable and charming guest house, set in a magnificent location. The food was superb, buffet breakfasts, picnic lunches and a three course meal at night. All the produce was fresh, and the dishes local. The tour leaders Phil and Peter complemented each other with their knowledge, and made a formidable team. They were enthusiastic and friendly, and altered the itinerary in line with the weather, making sure our party got the most out of the stay.

This was the first time we have travelled with Naturetrek, but could not fault their service. The website was informative and accurate, the booking process easy, and the pre departure information comprehensive.

Spring birding in Poland, private tour

A 2-centre week exploring the Biebrza Marshes and primeval forests of Bialoweiza looking for birds in mid-May. We found with the help of an expert UK ornithologist and an excellent local naturalist guide, many unusual species and several I had never seen before - especially several species of woodpecker and warbler. Often we had very good views and often repeat sightings of the more unusual birds.

Rating for tour operator:

Naturetrek have organised 3 previous tours with the Natural History Society of Northumbria, Newcastle upon Tyne and all have been good. This was the only one of the four trips that didn't include a botanist expert, but a guide in the Strict Reserve, Bialoweiza forest was a real expert.

The group had 5 experienced naturalist leaders, expert in different areas of natural history. Although the weather was mixed the team leaders ensured we maximised our experience of natural history. Bears, wolves and wild boar were seen as well as a plethora of different wild flowers including a large number of different orchids. There were excellent views of birds, one of the highlights being a golden eagle pursued by a raven displaying a wide range of acrobatic manoeuvres. The presence of experienced and knowledgeable team leaders made the trip very successful.

Rating for tour operator:

This was my first trip with Naturetrek and I found that from the beginning of the trip to its end everything went smoothly and efficiently. They were very responsive to any special requests and ensured that any dietary requirements were met at the hotel.
