Fantastic holiday in Ecuador

We have just returned from two weeks guided birdwatching in Ecuador with Naturetrek. The group trip was well organised with a fantastic variety of habitats visited including cloud forest, the Amazon and the high volcano areas. The wildlife exceeded expectations. Our guide and local guides were wonderful. Accommodation was good and food lovely.

Cranes and Champagne

Well organized and plenty time to see thousands of cranes; nice visit to Troyes and a very good visit to the Drappier Champagne.

Rating for tour operator:

They are really specialized on birdwatching. The guides are very good trained. Participants of the tour are birdwatchers. That means: a little bit crazy... It was cozy, educational and the food was very good (and for me far too much).

Zambia - South Luangwa safari

A week stay at Chikunto Safari Lodge with two safaris each day. A week stay at Chikunto Safari Lodge with two safaris each day. Excellent guides to drive us around the South Luangwa National Park always with a morning coffee stop and an early evening stop for a sundowner. Very good views from the safari vehicles and countless animals with close up sightings of Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Hippos, Buffalos and several types of antelope etc. Birds were not left out although they were not the prime targets so Fish eagle, Bateleur and White-backed Vulture were among the larger birds we did see. The guides knowledge of the animals and the trees, bushes and general environment couldn't be faulted. We managed to find a lot of the more elusive animals and many of the nocturnal ones. The lodge accommodation and the food was top grade and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We followed with a three day extension at Waterberry Lodge on the Zambezi near Livingstone. This allowed us to visit the Victoria Falls, Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park to see the White Rhinos, birdwatching around the lodge and evening boat trips on the Zambezi with sundowners provided.

Excellant nature holiday in Oman

Just returned from extremely good trip to Oman. Possibly the best Nature holiday I had been on. During the trip we saw over 200 varieties of birds as well as butterflies and reptiles. But it was not just quantity but also quality in terms of what we saw. We finished on a day of 5 different eagle species as well as a number of rare birds. The guide was terrific with an encyclopedic knowledge of wildlife but also with the enthusiasm and patience ...

The transportation was a convey of 4 X 4s driven professionally and with humour. The hotels and food were very good throughout. This trip really had no downside.

Amazing mountain landscape and great birds

Excellent birding trip to Taiwan, spending most of our time in the mountain forests, with a brief foray to the coastal wetlands to add variety. Fantastic tour leader, who also taught us about Taiwanese culture as well as the showing us the endemic birds.

A great way to make the long journey to The Falklands really worthwhile

Our target was The Falklands, but that's a very long way to go. So, we went via Brazil and Chile to make it a truly super trip, with wonderful stops for both culture and birding, while breaking up the journey into comfortable steps for a couple in our mid 70's.

Rating for tour operator:

We are experienced travellers and did a lot of our own research, much of it based on information from Naturetrek, but elsewhere too. Naturetrek helped turn that into a workable itinerary and advised on the best lodges, and made all the arrangements. The quality of all the lodges and guides along the way was extremely good. Everything went like clockwork. One weather-related exception was that our return flight out of the Falklands was cancelled due to unfavourable winds at the airport. This was handled extremely well, the local agent visited us in the hotel the evening before, on behalf of Naturetrek, and were very helpful explaining the arrangements and booking an extra tour for the next day. Fortunately, we had "padding" in our schedule, so it was not an inconvenience. On our return, Naturetrek re-imbursed us for the extra night on The Falklands, which was a pleasant surprise. Flight disruptions to/from The Falklands due to winds, are not uncommon, so travellers would be wise to consider leaving scope in their schedules to handle delays.
