Cotswold Way by Graham B., 29 Aug 2024

A Wonderful Walk through the Cotswold Hills

My wife and I had long thought of walking along the Cotswold Way - ever since my parents did the same 40 years ago - and this year we finally got around to it. It was the best holiday we have had in a long time, walking the 102 miles between Chipping Campden and Bath through some of the best of the British countryside, and staying at a variety of B&Bs, small hotels and inns along the way. There were some steep slopes - both up and down - but nothing too arduous, and our main luggage was transported for us to the next stop each day, so it was good to be able to travel light. The scenery was magnificent, varying from long views to the Severn estuary and Wales, to woodland walks and pretty (almost too pretty!) villages. We had a wonderful time.

Rating for tour operator:

What made the holiday special, and so easy-going, was the meticulous organisation by Mickledore Travel, from the initial booking to the end of the trip. Everything worked magnificently, from seamless baggage transfers to taxis (for occasional rides to more-distant accommodation) arriving precisely when and where we had been told. The booklet providing individual day-by-day notes on the walk, and all the details of what we would find on the way, gave us everything we could need, so we were just left to enjoy the walking. I know it is a cliché, but Mickledore really did exceed our expectations.

Excellent trip

My friend and I walked The Gower Peninsular in Wales. We used Mickledore to organise our trip. They booked superb B&Bs, provided brilliant information and was on hand for any enquiries we had.

We have been on many walking holidays and have always used Mickledore. They are easily contactable. Provide superb information and only book good B&Bs, which they check regularly. What we like the most is that they themselves do the walks , so they know exactly what they are like.

They made all our arrangements for lodging, and provided us with maps, guidebooks, and information on the villages we’d be in so we could make dinner reservations. This was our 3rd Mickledore trip, and we’re already talking about our next one!

Great walking holiday in North Yorkshire

We had a great holiday walking the Cleveland Way early in August. We went for the challenging 10 night / 9 day version and I have to admit that we did make one or two alterations to the route. The accommodation was good, especially considering that in some villages the choice was somewhat limited, with the b and bs in Robin Hood’s Bay and Scarborough being real stand-outs. We were pretty fortunate with the weather, though we did encounter some strong winds and (only once) torrential rain. The good people of Yorkshire were very welcoming and often offered to point out the correct direction before we had asked them. We have some great memories and some funny stories to tell.

Rating for tour operator:

Everything was very well organised by Mickledore Travel, who were very quick to respond to requests for clarification and who provided ample documentation. We hope to be able to do another holiday with Mickledore Travel in the very near future.

Northumberland Coast Path by Coach and Emily, 16 Aug 2024

Northumberland… the land of coasts and castles

This past June, we walked approximately 65 miles in Northumberland from Cresswell to Berwick-on-Tweed along the newly named English Coastal Path. We enjoyed the variety of our coastal accommodations along the North Sea, as well as learned more about the history of England through the many castles on this walk. We recommend taking the time to tour Bamburgh Castle, a living history spanning 1500 years!

This is our fifth walking holiday in England since 2017…. all with Mickeldore! Traveling from the United States, Mickeldore gave us the confidence to plan these holidays, knowing that they would “have our backs” if we needed assistance. Happily, all our trips went smoothly!

Thames Path - Marlow to Richmond-upon-Thames. Another brilliant trip with Mickledore.

Self guided 6 night walking trip along the river Thames from Marlow to Richmond-upon-Thames. The Mickledore booking process was very easy. We enjoyed staying in all of the hotels on the route, our luggage was successfully transferred every day and Mickledore pre-booked taxis along the route worked efficiently. All of the rooms were well appointed (received a free upgrade in one hotel) and all provided hearty breakfasts to start our days walking. Most of the hotels were centrally located with lots of restaurants nearby. The country house hotel was a little further out but still with easy access to town if you wanted it. As with our previous Mickledore holidays along the earlier sections of the Thames Path the route was very well sign-posted and followed the river with only a few detours. This section of the Thames Path was less rural but with a number of interesting villages and sights along the way eg. Runnymede and WIndsor/Eton. We would also recommend this trip through Mickledore as we have for the earlier two stages we have completed.

Rating for tour operator:

There was extensive information on the Mickledore website about the trip. The booking process was very easy. Once confirmed the holiday pack arrived quickly by post. It contained detailed information about all of the places we would be staying, local information about places to eat/emergency contact info etc as well as a detailed guide book and map. The guide book was excellent and included detailed maps for each section of the route. All of the hotels were ready for us when we arrived and our luggage was transferred for us seamlessly between them. We’re already thinking about our next trip with Mickledore.
