This was simply an outstanding holiday!! The ship on which we were treated to the sites/sights along the Lycian Coast, was exceptionally well appointedand the crew were extremely helpful, attentive and focussed on every detail which would make us travellers as comfortable as possible. Our tour guide Eyip was knowledgeable, good-humoured and worked carefully with our lecturer to make sure we enjoyed every element of the archaeological and historical sites. Our lecture was quite simply superb. His lectures, and he treated us to many, were insightful, informative and often very entertaining. The chef prepared exceptionally healthy and delicious meals, never repeating the cuisine from one, an extraordinary feat when looking at twenty different menus! Simply put, the stars aligned to make this tour enjoyable and memorable in all the very best ways!!

Peter Sommer Travels has clearly developed a a series of tours which tempts the traveller to immerse themselves in the archaeological, historical, mythological and cultural wealth of western Lycia in the company of an excellent tour guide and a noted and important Cambridge scholar. This tour was so carefully planned to the smallest detail that any traveller would have had to work hard not to have enjoyed themselves!

Well organised and we felt well looked after. Hiking was strenuous at times and temperatures were hot, but activities were paced well.

Our cruise along the Lycian Shore was an outstanding combination of shore excursions to fascinating archaeological sites, relaxing on the boat, swimming and enjoying exceptional Turkish cuisine. Our tour guide, Richard, was a very knowledgeable, engaging speaker, and it was a pleasure to listen and learn. Our tour manager, Ugur, worked behind the scenes, arranging for transfers, tickets to museums and historical sights and special on-shore meals, and provided local knowledge and translation between guests and crew. The boat was well maintained, comfortable and had an excellent crew. The meals the chef prepared were wonderful, and were anticipated by us all. We enjoyed getting to know our fellow travelers.

Peter Sommer Travels was a pleasure to work with. Everything was well organized and the background information they provided was very helpful. They made excellent choices for the board and crew, and for the guides.

We spent a week exploring the Dalmation coast between Dubrovnik and Split on a Turkish gulet enjoying a gastronomic tour. We were served gourmet food on board and loved exploring a few of the many islands where we learnt a lot about the history and culture of the region as well discovering delightful old towns, tasting wines and eating delicious lunches some of which we helped prepare.

We were nothing but impressed by Peter Sommer Travels. They are a very professional company who are well organised, personal and also very responsive to any queries.

This was our second cruise with Peter Sommer Travels. We did the Carian Coast cruise last year and liked it so much we came back this fall for Cruising to Ephesus. I have a feeling we will be doing another cruise with Peter next year as well. The boat is fantastic, a lovely wooden sailboat with 8 to 12 other passengers makes for very comfortable accommodations . The food was great and the highlight each day was the interesting tours of ancient sites.

Transfers were smooth. The boat was ship-shape. The on-shore archaeological tours were well organized and timed to avoid any crowds so at most sites we had the place to ourselves. The food on-board was well made and the on-shore restaurant visits were authentic Turkish fare.

We spent a wonderful 2 weeks with Maria and Paul exploring historic sites in Crete. Our guides were well informed, enthusiastic and made the history come alive. The food and accommodation were exceptional.

Well planned and everything went smoothly.

My holiday was in every way a surprise. I had expected warm seas, warmer sun, loads of food and wine and in between lovely dips in the Med the occasional historical trip. Well, we certainly got that. What I had not foreseen was the delightful new company we met who will be friends for life, the great range of architecture, archaeology and ancient history so effortlessly presented and explained by Peter Sommer. And just to add value and variety we had a splendid visit to a local winery followed by a delicious lunch. The boat was charming, the crew universally helpful and well informed, the arrangements to make each daily visit work properly were masterfully controlled by Cem, the unsung hero of the whole undertaking. And still time off for loafing, shopping, swimming, resting and of course loads of laughs amongst our fellow travellers. It was all much more exciting than I had thought it would be and I returned home aware that there is a lot about classical history I don’t know despite studying history at school. In fact I learned more in a week from Peter Sommer than I had managed in five years at school. So, next year we hope to go on another Peter Sommer holiday on a gulet on the Lycian coast. What’s not to like?

Cruising to Ephesus was our second trip with Peter Sommer Travels and we are planning a third trip in 2025. Fantastic would sum up the trip in one word. Starting your day on a beautiful, graceful gulet where you are served delicious food. The tours of the sites were spectacular. Peter Sommer is a brilliant guide. Peter is energetic and his love and enthusiasm for the history of the area was captivating. There was plenty of time, also, to swim in the Mediterranean or just relax on the boat as we cruised to the next fascinating site. Our cultural guide El Han was extremely knowledgeable about Turkish history and very personable. The crew on board the Sultan A were accommodating and friendly. We really enjoyed both of the trips were have taken and are looking forward to another trip next year.

Peter Sommer Travels creates fantastic tours. Peter Sommer Travels has everything very well planned and their staff ensures that transfers to and from the airport and the gulet go smoothly. Tickets or permits to museums and sites are taken care of and even the meals provided at restaurants were delicious and there was not waiting around. There was plenty of time to swim or relax on the boat. All has been well thought out and contingency plans when weather or other events might interfere with the schedule. We have taken two tours with Peter Sommer Travles, both on board beautiful wooden gulets. The tours are well organized, the accommodations on board are comfortable, the crews have been friendly and accommodating. The food has been delicious. Our guides were knowledgeable, personable, and considerate. We are planning another trip with Peter Sommer Travels in 2025.

We spent a magical week cruising the Carian Coast : Mediterranean to Aegean with Peter Sommer as our guide. How lucky were we! The minute we got on board our charming gulet and went barefoot, we were in holiday mode. An hour later, we were swimming in a turquoise bay before welcome drinks and a sumptuous dinner with our fellow shipmates, with whom we quickly bonded. And so it continued all blissful week, with visits to ancient deserted sites, some virtually untouched, where Peter wove his magic, giving us vibrant glimpses into the past. While Cem provided the apricots and nuts and his wonderful company (and his behind the scenes expertise). We visited some stunning sites and learned so much. We dipped in the sea, we lazed, we read, we chatted, we walked and we ate. We marvelled. It will stay with us forever...these golden days on the gulet with our fun and interesting fellow travellers and Peter and Gem. All the while we were looked after superbly by our lovely crew, with Sharhan producing mouth-wateringly fresh and healthy great breakfasts, lunches and dinners, We didn't have to think about a thing. Everything was beautifully arranged for us. We learned a lot. We loved it so much. We didn't want to get off. We’ll do it again as soon as we can!

Peter Sommer Travel. We found Peter Sommer Travel to be very efficient, yet easy and friendly to deal with while booking etc. They’ve thought of everything! They looked after all our transfers and everything worked like clockwork. We can’t fault them. Our holiday itself was the best we’ve had and was a delightful surprise. We can’t wait to go back!

Walking and cruising the Lycian Shore for two weeks with Peter Somers himself was the perfect holiday for us. Starting the day with a swim in the clear blue water , then an excellent Turkish breakfast on board our Gulet and on to explore some lesser known ancient ruins all the while being regaled by Peter as he brought the ancient past to life brilliantly. Often this was followed by a lunch hosted by a Turkish family - my personal favourite, a way to experience Turkish culture first hand. All this was followed by another swim or two and interesting chats with the other guests on board and a G & T while we watched the sun setting over the Mediterranean in a gorgeous pink display. Two weeks of bliss. We plan to return next year!
