A beautiful walk through the countryside of SW France.

Our party was a group of nine long time friends. This is the third annual walk that we have taken together (and second using On Foot). An organized walk with a daily destination and departure time, minimizes decisions that a group has to make, and we like this aspect. Of the walks we have done, I believe most were in agreement that this beautiful valley is at the top so far! It was not just the beauty of the landscape, but the quaint medieval villages that we passed through and had our lodging. Around every corner there were new and interesting sites.

I have appreciated the ease of communication and prompt, thorough replies to our questions. The tours are very well organized, and we have appreciated the flexibility to modify a few things upon request.

Beautiful, well designed itinerary in the Dordogne

Our itinerary each day was well designed, moving through landscapes and terrain that were always changing. It was challenging for us but not overwhelmingly so. Every day was different, so variable - wooded paths, open farmland, fields of lavender, sorghum, corn, orchards of walnut trees and apples, steep ravines whose sides were covered in limestone scree, and villages, often with sites to see. It's hard to think of anything we didn't like.

The OnFoot team was very responsive to our questions and very well-informed. The app they asked us to try out was excellent as was the booklet with notes on the various towns.

Dordogne France Walking Holiday

Fabulous 4-day/5-night walking holiday in the Dordogne region of France. Stunningly beautiful and varied landscape featuring medieval castles and villages, farms, and wooded areas in a river valley and high plateaus. Weather in late September was picture perfect. We walked between 8 and 11 miles each day (about 5-6 1/2 hours for us).

This was my first experience with On Foot Holidays, and they exceeded my expectations by a long shot. Their website is chock full of detailed, useful information, and the office staff were unfailingly prompt and friendly in their responses. They are extremely well organized and thorough in covering everything one might want to know in preparing for a trip -- they leave no stone unturned! Bravo!!

Dordogne - beautiful scenery, historic buildings, peaceful surroundings

A 6 day walk, with daily walking distances (after a taxi ride on some days to lessen the walking distance) of 13 - 18 km. Interesting geology and archeology. Hot and humid, which made the hotel swimming pools on two days an enticing goal. Excellent hotel accommodation with good food and wines

On Foot sent me an app with a GPS tracker, which I found very helpful - I would have been lost without it! They also have an English speaking local contact at the start of the walk, who made time to meet me, and who wrote excellent notes on the history and culture of the places I walked through. The luggage transfer, hotel bookings and taxi service at the start and end of the walk, as well as a couple of taxi rides to lessen the total walking distance on a couple of days, went without a hitch.

A week of walking in the beautiful Dordogne Valley

We spent a week walking through the Dordogne Valley. The walks were nicely curated, taking us through woodlands, fields, valleys, ridges and medieval villages. Accommodations were small hotels and inns and ranged from basic to luxurious. The route notes provided by On Foot Holidays were, as usual, accurate and informative. Taken together with the detailed maps and GPS files they provided, it was impossible to get lost, even in remote areas where we went hours without seeing another person. While this is a self-guided tour, we didn't feel alone, as On Foot's helpful local contact, Emily, was always a text or phone call away to answer any questions.

This was our third trip with On Foot Holidays, and we would be happy to work with them again. I don't know how they manage to be so responsive and efficient with such a relatively small team. They always seem to respond to emails same day (often on weekends and after hours), and even though responses often come from different members of the team, each one seamlessly picks up where their colleague left off. I also particularly appreciate On Foot's truth in advertising. Walking can be a great way to spend a holiday, but there can be challenges along the way -- long journeys to reach the start of the route, muddy or slippery trails after rain, hotels that don't always have a big-city level of service or sophistication, etc. On Foot tries to be candid about what to expect, so we've never been unpleasantly surprised along the way.

Fantastic Tour Company

We booked a 4 day walking holiday in the Dordogne for late April/early May 2024. The weather was a bit rainy for some of the time but it did not take away from the fantastic trip. Every aspect of it was perfect and we loved the area and the accommodations/food.

On Foot Holidays has the entire experience so thoroughly planned out and organized - it was such a stress free relaxing, enjoyable experience from the day we booked until the day we finished. Their on-the-ground experts (Emily Stokeley!! so frendly and helpful!!) were lovely and their bookings in hotels and restaurants were spot on.

despite the rain, a great time!

We did the 4/day/5 night Dordogne trek and despite the rain, had a wonderful time discovering villages we would have never knew existed! All the hotels and hotel owners were lovely and the meals were exquisite. The hiking was a tad wet (unusual weather for the time of year..) but beautiful regardless. I would highly recommend it and have done so already.

Emily was extremely attentive with weather circumstances and recommended alternative options. And was willing to help us in the event that my husband's dropped raincoat was not found. But it was!

Wonderful Dordogne

We had a lovely walk through the Dordogne region of France through OnFootHolidays. The walking had plenty of opportunities to stride out but also had some challenging areas. It turned out that April was a perfect time to walk as the temperatures were cool in the morning and the sun was warm in the afternoon. We saw incredible spring flowering trees, wildflowers, iris and wisteria.
