One of the best holidays ever.

This holiday was good from start to finish. We were well looked after by our tour manager and our local guide. We were 'on the go' from dawn til dusk, seeing so much of Vienna, art, architecture, music. We also had the opportunity to try lots of typical Austrian food. Brilliantly organised.

Information sent out before the holiday was clear and detailed enough for us to know what to expect of our trip to Vienna. During the holiday the tour manager was quietly efficient and always around if needed. He took care to make sure everyone was happy/ content with the plan for the day.

Vases and Volcanoes - A comprehensive, contextualised tour

As you would expect, Christopher Smith's knowledge is encyclopaedic. Yet he conveys this with passion and persuasion, while weaving it into a broader narrative. I learned so much about Roman life in the Bay of Naples. Each of the key sites was explored in detail and, while I knew something about Pompeii from documentaries, it is only by being there that you can gauge the extent of the site. The Villa Oplontis was a revelation. A first-rate tour!

Christopher Smith and James Hill worked extremely well together, to provide participants with a contextualised understanding of this region in Roman times, each complementing the other perfectly and integrated the local guide seamlessly into the broader narrative. This was another superb tour from the Ciceroni - enhanced by perfect weather - and I'd happily recommend both the tour and the team.

Excellent

The tour was well planned and conveyed expert information in a very accessible manner.. I feel I learnt a great deal about the history, art and architecture of Sicily in a relatively short time. I particularly enjoyed the inspections of private homes and the hospitality we received there.

The itinerary included Phoenician, Greek and Roman sites including Greek temples second only to the Parthenon, amazing Roman as well as Christian/Islamic mosaics and some incredible ancient artefacts in museums. The tour was well paced, with some free time almost each day, wonderful food and wine. A bonus was excellent weather. A memorable experience in every way and I have already booked with the same travel company for a tour in 2018.

Rating for tour operator:

A small company, specialising in cultural interests, with the co-owner leading many of them. The eye for detail was impressive, from booking right through to post-tour review. The travel arrangements were thorough, the information about the places visited superb and the day-to-day helpfulness (each day’s arrangements, ideas for eating when not provided and friendly after-hours moments) was first class.

A very interesting trip with friendly companions and excellent information about the sites and a wonderful historic overview of the area.

From the outset we received a very warm welcome from our guides whose erudition about the places we visited and their place in history constantly amazed us. We saw incredible mosaics of immense size, wonderful colours with magical delineations of a host of sea creatures and other animals in the Basilica at Aquileia. We gazed in wonder at the works of Tiepolo in the palaces in Udine. In Cividale dei Friuli we visited a rare medieval church "The Lombard Temple" which had a unique atmosphere as did the Abbey of Santa Maria in Silvis and these are only a part of the total trip which very importantly also encluded some excellent dinners and lunches!

Rating for tour operator:

Ciceroni goes to immense trouble to search out places not always seen by the general tourist, they provide excellent well informed guides and specialize in good food too!

A wonderful combined cultural and fun holiday.

Organised as a group holiday for an arts society. Ciceroni were exceptional in ensuring that all of the visits we wanted were included, even though we restricted our visit to four nights/five days. Our local guide was chosen with great care and she too was exceptional with excellent knowledge imparted with enthusiasm and humour.

Rating for tour operator:

This was my first tour with this operator but I'm sure it won't be my last. The pre-tour information was clear and helpful, and if I rang with a query I was dealt with quickly, efficiently and in a pleasant manner. The programme was well structured and covered a wide range of places of interest. The group was not too large and the audio guide system was a 'god-send'! I'd recommend this tour operator to friends and family.
