Doing the Wicklow Way

The Wicklow Way. In principle it is an interesting, nice way and varied. We are glad that we did and completed it. However about some details we were not so happy. Distances: several day-tours were in our opinion (much) too long. We prefer a distance of 15 till maximum 17 km a day - we had three/four of over 17 km. We like to enjoy the vicinity during our walk. Distances: several day-tours were in our opinion (much) too long. We prefer a distance of 15 till maximum 17 km a day - we had three/four of over 17 km. We like to enjoy the vicinity during our walk. B&B's: In general the B&B's were ok, although some were quite a distance from the Wicklow way, too far to walk, glad that a drive was organized. The hosts were friendly but mostly we got the feeling one is just a passer-by for a night, commercial directed. Quality of the way: the greater part was nature-ways/paths and we liked that, but not to underestimate part was road/street with asphalt or hard/stony pavement and cars driving by (especially first part of the way from Marlay park and Tinahely to Clonegal), surely not our favorite. Environment/vicinity: varied, nice; some parts dull (roads/streets). Restaurants on the way: Although some not on the Wicklow way, in despite, we liked Coaches's Inn/ Roundwood, Heather's House/Laragh, McReddin Village/ McReddin, O'Connors/Tinahely. We hope this comment will help you or the readers. Sincerely and regards.

Absolute Escapes does in general a fine job. This is the third time we organized a Walking Vacation with them and we arre satisfied.

Absolute Escapes responded to this review on 23 Sep 2024:

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you enjoyed the varied landscapes and the natural paths along the Wicklow Way, and we're grateful that you chose Absolute Escapes for the third time.

Your comments about the distances and B&Bs are invaluable, and we’ll certainly take them on board. We aim to balance the distances to suit all preferences, so we understand the importance of offering shorter options for those who prefer to explore at a more relaxed pace. We’re also glad that the transfers from some of the more distant B&Bs were helpful, though we will review the accommodation selection to enhance the overall experience.

We truly appreciate your continued support and hope to welcome you back for another adventure in the future.

Kerry Way

A good long distance walk but not our favorite due to weather and trail conditions.

Most excellent. AE worked with us on planning a customized trip,. Accommodations were very much more than we expected. Hosts were welcoming. Breakfast’s excellent. Baggage transfers flawless. Taxi pick ups and drops perfect and flexible on timing.

Hi Dennis. Thank you for your kind words about your experience of working with us. We are delighted to hear that your expectations of your accommodation were exceeded and that all of your arrangements were flawless.

I'm so sorry to hear that the weather on the Kerry Way was challenging. We wish that we could book some sunshine as part of your package! I was in Kerry last August and experienced all weather conditions from sun, wind, rain and everything in between.

If you ever want to book another Absolute Escapes holiday, we would be delighted to suggest one that you might enjoy. Take care and thank you again for booking through us. Best wishes, Lottie Smart

Wonderful

This was a combination of work and rest and we needed to get the right balance between both. We were able to spend seven weeks driving around the UK seeing England, Wales and Scotland. We got to see a lot and there was not a bad day.

The itinerary gave us ample time for sightseeing whilst driving between accomodation as well as sufficient opportunity to see local highlights in each destination. Of particular importance was having time to visit Breage and St Keverne, areas important to us as we have family who migrated to Australia from here in about 1840. The standard of BnB's was excellent and the hosts at each location could not have been more helpful. We had no issues with car hire and would highly recommend this holiday format to anyone wishing to visit Cornwall.

Rating for tour operator:

Absolute Escapes were fantastic. All staff we were in contact with were friendly and helpful, from our initial enquiry, questions and changes to the itinerary, payment and follow up. The itinerary was exactly what we were looking for. They use hassle fee car hire and excellent quality BnB's with great hosts. The comprehensive travel pack included digital maps, en-route sightseeing, clear directions to accomodation, highlights at each destination and eating out guides. We used all of this information and it was immensely helpful.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments, Michael. It’s also great to know that you found our information pack useful for sightseeing and dining recommendations. I hope we can welcome you back for another holiday in the future! Perfect

I had a very nice walking holiday on the Fife costal path. Everything worked out perfectly as planned. I, once again, got to enjoy the breathtaking landscape of Scottland and the very friendly, warm and welcomming nature of the scottish people.

Amazing planning and organization

We loved the proposed itinerary. The accommodation choices were diverse and superb. The choice of accommodation locations was absolutely ideal, quiet areas, but within walking distance of the main activities. The personalised itinerary which details each day of our holiday, including your accommodation was perfect. Nothing more to add to this itinerary. It was perfect!

Wonderful walking holiday in Yorkshire Dales

My husband and I walked the Herriot Way. My husband is a vet who, as a young boy, was inspired by James Herriot. We had a wonderful week walking in the Dales. Beautiful scenery, beautiful villages and excellent food at every stop we made. The walk was manageable for us and I would highly recommend it for people who are new to walking holidays.

It has long been an ambition to tour the Hebrides further, following a holiday on Skye, a long time ago. When circumstances meant that had an opportunity to achieve our ambition presented itself, we found ourselves not really knowing how to go about getting a worthwhile trip sorted out. After a bit of research, we entrusted our Hebridean Adventure to the Team at Absolute Escapes. The service was excellent from the start, everything easy to arrange, even with us having some pretty exacting requirements, nothing was too much trouble. Before we knew it, we had a suggested itinerary, information about our accommodation and ferry crossings, stress free. Car packed and off we went. We thought we knew some of the areas we were going to travel to and through, but to our absolute delight we found ourselves exploring areas we had not previously ventured into from Day 1. Accommodation was top notch right through the holiday, all friendly hosts, comfortable and of course you can not forget the marvellous food. All of them gave a perfect base from which to explore further. Our only real concern before setting off was being in the right place at the right time for the ferries. We need not have worried, all we had to do was follow the detailed itinerary and we were fine. Everything going like clockwork, again pretty much stress free. Everywhere we went had something to offer, everywhere you looked there was a view, stunning mountain ranges, rolling wild moors, jagged cliffs and bright white beaches, as well as historic places, just fantastic. We probably would never have ventured as far without the help of Absolute Escapes, we can not thank them enough for an amazing trip, simply marvellous.

Conquering the Pennine Way - A solo walk

I wanted to challenge myself. I wanted solitude. I wanted a path that would lead to contemplation and reflection. The Pennine Way seemed the perfect fit. I knew nothing of the trail or the area prior to planning this excursion. I spent the winter studying maps, books, and blogs of other walkers. While I became familiar with the aspects of the path, nothing really prepares one for this walk (especially if you have never done distance walking in the UK). It was everything I anticipated and so much more. The logistics were all perfectly set up by my tour operator, which enabled me to concentrate on the joy of the walk, the quirks of the countryside, the beauty of spring in the Dales... and yes the rain, hail, bogs, and slabs. What a once in a lifetime experience!

Rating for tour operator:

Absolute Escapes was like the best of friends: they provided the information and support needed for my trip from the planning phase all the way to the end of the trail; they were standing by, always ready to assist, making my first UK walk (the Pennine Way) a huge success. I greatly appreciated the encouragement, the key advice and tips, and the accuracy of the information provided. I am already planning my next trip!
