Thanks so much Elaine for this wonderful feedback. On a personal note, it was lovely to meet up with you and the rest of the group in Maun, and we are so happy that our camping and lodge based safari with Moses as the guide was such a success.

Alaska - Kenai Peninsular, Kodiak, and Katmai bear viewing

An excellent trip with fantastic bear viewing and close up encounters, which was the primary objective. But also great opportunities to see other sea life and enjoy the spectacular Alaskan scenery.

Wildlife Trails put together a very effective and balanced itinerary which meant we were doing different things on most days, whilst still having plenty of bear viewing activity.

Wildlife Trails responded to this review on 14 Aug 2024:

Thank you so much for your postive feedback. This year has been one of the best for both bear and whale watching with all our clients enjoying spectacular views of bubble netting out of Seward which is really quite rare. We hope to see you again on one of our special bespoke wildlife safaris.

Alaska

We toured around central southern Alaska, with Anchorage as the hub. We travelled by hired car, boat and float-plane, often visiting very remote locations. The objectives were wildlife observation and hiking in wilderness locations.

Allan has a wealth of knowledge and experience and was able to set us up with an itinerary that suited our requirements well and would not have been available as a pre-set package.

Wildlife Trails responded to this review on 13 Aug 2024:

Thanks so much Steven for your kinds words. Indeed, we have been organising bespoke Alaska wildlife holidays since 2007 and it is still one of the countries we love the most, as it represents a real frontier for both travel and exhilerating natural bear and whale viewing. We hope to return with a group for an extensive recce in 2025.

Alaska bears and whales

The first week I hired a car in Anchorage and drove down to Seward where I did an 8 hour boat trip with Kenai Fjords, the highlight of the trip was seeing humpback whales bubblenet feeding. Then I drove north to Denali national park. The second week I flew to Kenai via Kodiak and stayed at Kenai Wilderness Lodge where we had some amazing bear encounters.

Rating for tour operator:

Wildlife Trails are a small company who do genuinely tailor made trips. They have personal experience of the majority of the places they recommend, both for wildlife encounters and accommodation. This is especially valuable in destinations where local knowledge and early booking are essential to getting the best experience. For instance, when going bear watching in Alaska everyone thinks of Brook Falls but Katmai wilderness lodge is so much quieter with small groups and no day trippers.

Wildlife Trails responded to this review on 14 Aug 2024:

We are so delighted that your Bears and Whales trip to Alaska with Wildlife Trails was such a success. It's atonishing this year how many of our clients have witnessed bubble netting on their glacier and wildlife boat cruises out of Seward - that is a rare wildlife experience to witness!

Booking through Allan at Wildlife Trails I had the most incredible experience on this trip. Working with Allan previously we put together an itinerary that included Brooks Falls, Frazer Lake and once more time at the beyond wonderful Katmai Wilderness lodge. You can ver build up too much expectation on wildlife trips but I saw exactly 100 bears, a wolf, many eagles, otters and birdlife, of course salmon on their annual pilgrimage. You get lucky or unlucky with wildlife and you have to be patient with delays due to weather, small plane flights but the outcome was in excess of what I had thought, lucky week to choose but great planning by Wildlife Trails. As for Katmai Wilderness Lodge, just not enough good words to be said about them, if you go you will never be disappointed.

Rating for tour operator:

Wildlife Trails are a small family business and Allan has spent many years putting together itineraries for people but most importantly has visited many of the countries and accommodations that are on offer. You can go with a pre-planned itinerary or bespoke but nothing is too much trouble and you feel that you are in safe hands. I would highly recommend them and there are many countries and itineraries to choose from. This was my second booking and feel sure there may be a third in the offing.

Wildlife Trails responded to this review on 13 Aug 2024:

It's always rewarding working with Phillip on his bespoke wildlife holidays because he knows what he wants and is also willing to revisit areas which proved magical in the past. We are so delighted that this years Alaska bear safari with Wildlife Trails was even more successful than the last one.

A once in a lifetime chance to see endangered Polar Bears in Churchill, Canada. A small group tour visiting Riding Mountain National Park for a couple of days before flying up to Churchill for a week of wildlife spotting in the snow and ice. The trip to RMNP was interesting with wonderful winter scenery & lots of snow! The wildlife was well hidden unfortunately but it prepared us for the cold weather to come. The accommodation was very comfortable and cosy and the food was great. The wildlife viewing in Churchill was split between day long trips on the Tundra Buggies and morning trips in 4x4 vehicles closer to town. We saw numerous Polar Bears from the various vehicles and took lots of photos and have some amazing memories to treasure. The BnB accommodation was very comfortable and Allan cooked a number of evening meals so that we stayed in the warm once we were back from the wildlife viewing. We spent an extra couple of night in Winnipeg at the end of the group tour, it was good to relax and warm up!!

Rating for tour operator:

We have used Wildlife Trails for the last 16 years for various wildlife trips to Africa, India, South America and Canada. They are our go to travel operator for all our wildlife holidays - 10+ and counting! Highly recommended

Wildlife Trails responded to this review on 03 Apr 2024:

Thanks so much Kim for this wonderful review. You were an absolute star to help out in Riding Mountain NP with the driving and also shared your photography expertise with other clients on the trip. Our cosy Churchill AirBnB worked well for the group and gave us more flexibility to do our own thing and then enjoy the amazing wildlife encounters.

We stayed inside the park for our first stop at Dhikala, this was an experience like no other, very basic accommodation, food was great and staff very helpful and friendly. It was great to right in the middle of the wildlife. We moved on to stay outside the park in Ramnagar and the accommodation was very comfortable with good food and accommodating staff. We then travelled back to Delhi and then on to Khajuraho for a spot of culture with a visit to the amazing Hindu temples. We then moved on to Panna to the Ken River Lodge located right on the Ken River. Again great accommodation with excellent food and friendly staff. We had morning, afternoon and evening safaris here with excellent sightings over a number of days. We then moved on to Bandhavgarh and stayed at the Kings Lodge, very luxurious with a very welcoming swimming pool. We had morning, afternoon and an evening safari here with great Tiger sightings - our first afternoon included a young male walking, laying by the side of the road, hunting, running, jumping walking off into the distance! Amazing! We have come back with lots of photos and some amazing memories.

Rating for tour operator:

We have used Wildlife Trails since 2008 for all our wildlife based holidays. Allan is very knowledgeable about all the destinations he advertises on the website. Each holiday starts with a number of phone calls and itineraries that are shaped and finalised together. Highly recommended.

Wildlife Trails responded to this review on 03 Apr 2024:

What a great combination of 3 very different wildlife sanctuaries and although basic, the chance to actually stay inside a national park at Dhikala, is often a highlight for many of our clients. We are so delighted that you enjoyed some memorable wildlife encounters in both Panna and Bandhavgarh. We really appreciate you putting your trust in Wildlife Trails over so many years and so many safaris - thankyou!

Rating for tour operator:

Back in 2022 I used Wildlife Trails to help me plan an epic trip to Canada and as that went so well, I had no hesitation to use them again for a recent trip to India. Their specialist, expert knowledge really helped to devise the perfect itinerary even taking us to places that we hadn’t heard of in order to deliver the best experience that has created the most wonderful memories. All the arrangements went like clockwork and we were made to feel most welcomed and valued clients especially as we were met at every destination throughout our journey. This gave us lots of reassurance and eliminated the stress that is often related to travel. All requests during our trip were dealt with positively, quickly, and nothing was too much trouble - this was really appreciated. We were blown away with our jeep safaris which delivered a truly memorable experience. The guides we had were first class and their experience and knowledge shone through and really delivered for us. We felt particularly blessed as so many people we met had done multiple safaris with zero tiger sightings. The choice of zones was spot on as it happened. Our drivers were wonderful, making sure our comfort was their top priority. The accommodation didn’t disappoint and we were thrilled with the heritage locations that had been recommended. All the city tours were well structured and interesting and the guides were excellent in their own ways bringing the history and culture to life. I think to sum up, “Allan from Wildlife Trails did us proud” and we couldn’t have wished for a better trip. I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone and I’m already planning my third trip with them.
