dramatic walking

A self guided walking holiday with clear walking notes and a useful walking app, following a route from hotel to hotel. OnFoot organised everything very competently and provided a friendly service and all appropriate support. OnFoot's choices of hotels were all good. La Gomera is an excellent destination for walking in January.

Wonderful walking holiday in La Gomera

6 days of walking between 3 hotels in La Gomera. The routes laid down by On Foot were excellent and sent us places we would probably not have gone on our own. Instructions were top notch and having a helper on hand via text was very reassuring. The walk challenged us and we were able to by pass some Too challenging ascents by judicious use of taxis or the luggage transport.

Ridges, Valleys and More, Oh My!

La Gomera is a typical volcanic island in form, with a dominant peak and a radiating series of sharp ridges and steep valley walls. With the informative and personable Aznar, the trip contact, a text away, we were always confident we were in the right place at the right time. And hiking in warm weather in November and December? We’re glad we stayed in the Canary Islands for a month!

This was our sixth trip with On Foot Holidays. They continue to amaze us with their professionalism, friendliness, knowledge, and joy in providing their clients with superb service. On the trail or at our trip inns, we often compare notes with other hikers and their tour operators. No one compares to On Foot, so we’re always happy to spread the word. When we meet other On Footers, eyes light up when we discover we share the same good fortune. We plan to keep coming back until we can’t trek anymore!

Hikers heaven

This was probably my best holiday of all-time. My son and I absolutely loved it. All completely enjoyable and perfectly pleasant. Thrilling scenery, superb trails, spring-like weather and everywhere so unbusy, pristine and peaceful. At times it was like walking on a winding path through an ornamental garden with unusual plants at your feet but with Alpine views all around. Thrilling scenery, superb trails, spring-like weather and everywhere so unbusy, pristine and peaceful. At times it was like walking on a winding path through an ornamental garden with unusual plants at your feet but with Alpine views all around. The holiday provided the best of both worlds: the sense of discovery you get from independent travel but with the security and convenience of a one-click package. The app, our ghost guide Aznar and the head office information and organisation was a perfect combination. All the arrangements worked seamlessly. The taxi/bus options were very useful too and we shamelessly took them all!

Rating for tour operator:

A very high class organisation from the first point of contract, to the material sent out pre-holiday, right through to correspondence in the week or two prior to departure.

A week walking holiday on La Gomera with On Foot. Accommodation excellent, arrangements, directions and app were perfect. All went smoothly and we had our local rep to contact with any queries.

On Foot were very good at all communications before and during the holiday. They provided us with excellent directions for our walking and were also trialing an app which was very good.

Two more great walking adventures with On Foot Holidays

We combined two walks in Spain, Andalucia and La Gomera, which were our 21st and 22nd walking holidays with On Foot. We didn’t walk a couple of days in Andalucia due to foul weather, but these were only 2 of 3 days in all of our trips that we didn’t walk. We enjoy the types of routes offered and can’t say enough about the quality of service provided by all of the staff. We are already looking at another walk!

Rating for tour operator:

We thought they were an excellent company back in 2013 when we did our first walk in Slovenia, and it’s hard to believe they could actually improve. But they certainly have. The development of new routes and GPS route guidance are two advancements that come to mind. But one thing has never changed, and that is the professionalism of the staff. They treat you as if you are their only client!

It was very well organised and very well planned, thoroughly enjoyable and with the right level of challenge and reward. The challenge is presented by the very special topography of this volcanic island and the rewards are those of discovering breathtaking vistas and amazing discoveries in the most unexpected places. The landscapes are spectacular, in some places nature in the raw; a wild rocky harsh environment. In others nature tamed with awesome stone terracing and intense cultivation. The laurisilva cloud forest areas are special, especially so when shrouded in mists; dark, cool and mysterious. And then you descend into the warmth and sunshine of the lower elevations. Hotels were well chosen and of high standard. Transport when scheduled between stops was reliable and luxurious.

Rating for tour operator:

On-Foot were particularly efficient at assisting us to add in extra days and provided well informed advice about the locations. The pre-tour planning was very good as was the pre-tour information. Routes were well chosen and the GPS tracked guidance was spot-on. On island guidance and advice, provided by their Spanish representative was top-rate and immediate in response to the very few queries that we had.

Beautiful Walking on La Gomera

Fabulous walking routes around this beautiful island staying at small rural hotels which were all different but charming in their own ways. The scenery and spring flowers were stunning and the walking routes and options were perfect for us. On some routes we didn’t meet another soul all day which made it even more special. We extended our holiday by staying extra nights in the Parador Hotel in San Sebastián which was absolutely amazing. I thoroughly ...

The information/support pack was incredibly detailed and proved extremely useful. Whilst on holiday, the local contact was in touch regularly and responded quickly to any questions we had. The notes for the routes we took were remarkably accurate in terms of timings, distance and gradings. All the accommodation arranged was more than acceptable and our bags were moved around as arranged.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot Holidays was not an operator we had come across before - but - with their high reviews we decided to use their services. We were not disappointed. Their speed of response and quality of information and arrangements could not be bettered in my opinion. On Foot Holidays team should be congratulated in delivering such a fabulous experience for their customers.
