McKinlay Kidd review

McKinley Kidd could not have been better. We gave them a very tight time frame to get our trip organised because we only made a last minute decision to travel. They did it. All of our travel just flowed smoothly from ferries, to hotels, to hire car. No hitches. We stayed in good hotels with great breakfasts. Thanks to all at McKinley Kidd for getting us to places on our bucket list. It would not have happened without your organisation, especially

Beautiful journey through the Outer Hebrides

This was a short journey of just over a week, staying at three hotels on Barra, North Uist and Harris. The arrangements made by McKinlay Kidd were totally stress-free and more than helpful. The selected hotels could hardly be faulted: all were welcoming and provided good food and accommodation, often excellent. Very, very good. Great organisation, no stress and lots of additional information that helped us to get full enjoyment from the holiday. No problems at all.

Great week exploring the Northern Isles (and drinking a little whisky!)

We took a fly-drive package with McKinlay Kidd. They organised the flights from the South of England to Orkney, where we stayed at Lynnfield Hotel, a great high quality hotel that we'd recommend to anyone. The hire car rep met us at the airport, and the car was great for exploring some of the amazing historic sites of Orkney. The hire car rep met us at the airport, and the car was great for exploring some of the amazing historic sites of Orkney. At the end of the three days, we dropped off our car and flew to Shetland where we again picked up a car and travelled to Busta House Hotel, which was also of a very good standard. We loved how different Shetland and Orkney are from each other, and how independent each is. You saw the Islands' flags flying everywhere - not the Saltire or the Union Jack. People were terrific - universally friendly, welcoming and helpful. 5* holiday, really recommended.

Excellent in the planning stage. Our package was individually tailored for us, and we travelled as a couple - at no time were we in a group. Some flight adjustments were necessary at one time and they were attentive to detail and followed through on everything. The pre-departure pack we were sent contained maps, guides, itineraries and very helpful Explorer passes which got us into many attractions at no cost (but not the whisky distillery unfortunately!) - extremely comprehensive. A bonus also pre-organised within the cost, was a fantastic boat trip to see nesting sea birds, puffins and also some underwater life via a submarine camera. All really good.

I could not fault it in any way

We had a wonderful week on the Isle of Mull - the accommodation was good and the organised trips were fabulous. A beautiful island to which we hope to return to explore other parts we did not have time to see.

This is the second trip we have travelled with McKinlay Kidd (last year we went to Eire) and I cannot praise them enough for their personal and caring service. Special thanks to Robert (last year) and Hamish (this year)

Scottish Island hopping with McKinlay Kidd

Our fourth holiday with McKinlay Kidd took in Gigha, Jura, Islay and Colonsay. We have previously been to the Orkney Islands, Shetland and the Outer Hebrides.

Every Island has something different to offer and McKinlay Kidd have a knack of choosing interesting stop-overs (always with an accent on good food).

Short break to Shetland - 4 nights, 2 hotels

My husband and I went to Shetland for 4 nights (extending the standard 3 night offering) to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We stayed at the Scalloway Hotel and the Busta House hotel. There was plenty to see in the South and North of Shetland (although we preferred the walks available in the North as the scenery there was beautiful). Yell and Unst were also very easily accessible, with pre-booking the ferries very straightforward. Flying ...

I made initial contact with McKinlay Kidd via their website (which I found very easy to use and most informative about the services they offered). They responded quickly to my enquiry and were extremely helpful when I asked to extend the standard stay by an extra night. I was given a choice of flights and the pre-holiday information pack was well presented and informative. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again or recommend them to others.

The itinerary and choice of places to stay are excellent.

I am particularly impressed at the stay of 2 of the places. The cosy family run hotel (Old Pines) at Spean Bridge has great view and enticing organic cuisine. The homemade raspberry jam is simply a gastronomic treasure and compliment to the yummy scone upon your arrival.

The stay at Inverness at a previous residence of Scottish writer Neil Gunn has add a writer to my enjoyable reading experience. The reading of his highland novels has tensified my travel experience in the Scottish highlands. These are the area where local expertize such as McKinlay Kidd has their comparative advantage to other larger operator.

Great holiday despite the weather

This was a rail tour of Scotland from Glasgow to Fort William, Isle of Skye, Inverness, Pitlochry & Edinburgh. My wife and I had a great time even though the weather was wet and windy, particularly when we were on Skye. The hotels were good and the arrangements worked well, even when Scotrail (the rail company) were on strike - the tour operator arranged replacement taxis.
