Scotland by Rail is a great way to travel

We much preferred this to a Group Tour. Our accommodations were excellent and many were smaller and unique, Something you would not get in a larger tour group. We also felt that we had a bigger exposure to the local people and culture by travelling this way/

McKinlay Kidd Car-free Scottish Island Hopping

We loved every moment of our trip. We did the Car-free Scottish Island Hopping tour visiting Iona, Mull and Skye by train, ferry, bus and taxi. All accommodation, transfers and organisation was excellent and the experience was delightful.

We loved every moment of our trip. We did the Car-free Scottish Island Hopping tour visiting Iona, Mull and Skye by train, ferry, bus and taxi. The McKinlay Kidd plan, organisation and co-ordination was professional and perfect and the destination accommodations were faultless. Plans had to change a couple of times as the weather interfered with 2 ferry crossings, but each time the wonderful staff at McKinlay Kidd advised us of changes and organised alternatives that brought everything back on track.

West Highland Line to Skye by Joan, 13 Nov 2024

Magical visit to the Highlands

For many years I sang Scottish songs at meetings of our local Caledonian Society. To see the places in real life was a surreal experience: Skye, the Cuilin Hills, Lochaber, the lochs and so much more. The arrangements were smoothly done and the accommodation was luxurious.

Our guide on Skye was an elderly gentleman called McLeod, I think his first name was Donald. He gave us a wonderful tour of the island. I have a fair knowledge of, and interest in, the history of the area, and a great interest in languages, so he, as a native Gaelic speaker born on Skye, was the ideal person for me. He was able to fill in so many historic and linguistic details. It was a magical tour in spite of the rain and cold!

Amazing Scotland

We visited Scotland, using the Grand Tour Of Scotland by Rail option of McKinley Kidd. First visit to that part of the world and thoroughly enjoyed it. Well organized. Excellent small tour operatives. Truly felt welcome and at home in all the accommodations. Train trips were wonderful.

Road Tour of Western Scotland

Went up the west coast driving a recommended route stopping for meals and accommodation at McK-K organised locations.

Rating for tour operator:

Very friendly and supportive. Kept in touch with us while we worked out a solution to arriving late due to train delays, and being unable to pick up the hire car as it was out of normal business hours when we finally got in to Glasgow.
