I feel I must write to thank you the trip of a lifetime. I have followed the Everest expedition for almost 50 years and undertook the Everest Base Camp Trek with yourselves, returning last week. From start to finish, KE have been excellent. The booking procedures, the documentation and advice given helped us to prepare for the trip very well. When we needed to contact you your staff were always extremely helpful. We were met at Kathmandu airport by the Trek Leader Pasang Rinji Sherpa who proved to be excellent throughout.. All 14 of our party made it to Base Camp, in no small part due to the efforts of Pasang who ensured that everyone received his personal attention. Great care was made as to what we ate and drank and the team’s constant supply of drinks and drink stops I am sure helped us to acclimatise properly. No one in the party suffered from stomach upsets or AMS. The knowledge of Pasang and his team made sure we saw all the highlights, picking out the view points and the mountains – giving us names and heights! As would be expected, their knowledge of the area was freely passed on making it all the more interesting. Pasang ensured we made early flights to and from Lukla and his team were helpful, polite and knowledgeable all through the trip. The Lodge accommodation was ready and waiting with lunch stops all arranged in advance. No one will ever complain about the lack of food! Great attention was paid to Hand washing before every meal which I am sure helped avoid any unpleasant sickness. Whilst an experienced walker and a reasonably fit 60 year old, I have never undertaken any trekking before and never walked that such altitude. The program of acclimatisation together with the care given by Pasang and his team made the trip the success it was. By using the Everest Link WiFi card (really a must buy) we were able to keep in touch with those back home and keep them updated with Photographs. WhatsApp calls are an ideal cheap way of phoning. On our return to Kathmandu (Shanker Hotel was excellent by the way) the hospitality extended by KE in utilising different restaurants in the City was again first class. I cannot think of any great change I would recommend to the trip – it lived up to every expectation that I had. The only suggestion I would make is that you provide your Leaders and their team with KE Branded clothing. They are excellent ambassadors for you and I am sure they would wear the kit with great pride. Pasang is looking to summit Everest next year and is trying to put together funds to complete this – I am sure any help you could provide would be very welcome. Imagine future trekkers being led by a KE Leader who had summited Everest! Thanks once again for an absolutely amazing trip.

Rating for tour operator:

1st Class from start to finish. They offered everything and took care of all the arrangements. All we had to do was turn up, walk and enjoy ourselves. The Trek Leader was 1st class which made it all that much more enjoyable. I would recommend KE unreservedly for anyone wishing to undertake one of their treks.

Interesting walking through pretty countryside and visiting several superb historical sites.

Easy walking through pine forests, on good tracks with occasional good sea views, and lots of cultural interest. Accommodation was adequate considering the reasonable price and the food was always delicious and plentiful.

This is a beautiful part of Italy that is becoming very popular and after visiting it is easy to see why. There are wonderful views at every turn and the people are very nice. Although this holiday was graded as a 3 many of the group thought it should have been a little higher since some walks were fairly strenuous and the days were long. There was not a lot of down time in this trip and consequently one beautiful town can blur into the next as the group try to complete the daily itinerary. Some of the walking trails are narrow and high with not many safeguards and our guide avoided some of the more precarious trails as he gauged the fitness and willingness of our group. Our guide was young but excellent. We had one day were it rained all day so the guide and group agreed to go to nearby Genoa instead. This worked out well and provided the team with a little break from walking. Accommodation is a family run hotel. It is basic, clean and friendly and the food is very good. I recommend perhaps adding a day or two unto the end of this holiday to just visit one or two of the towns again since there is not a lot of time to spend in the towns, during the walks. All in all an excellent holiday.

Walking the White Mountains of C by t_hiker, 12 Oct 2018

Exploring the White Mountains of Crete

This was an excellently run hiking holiday in stunning scenery, unique in Europe. The hikes were challenging, but well within the capabilities of the group. The guide was humorous, efficient and stacked full of local knowledge. Some of the accommodation was a little basic, but limited choice in the key locations for the hikes did not give options on where to stay.

Ten days, and covering a lot of ground, this holiday was as described, not needing high fitness, but giving a superb experience travelling across Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia. The smooth organisation meant we could just soak in the culture, landscape, history, delicious food and hospitality of the region. City tours of Belgrade, with its beautiful rivers, Mostar, Sarajevo and Dubrovnik were balanced with three days in the Serbian countryside in very comfortable log cabins. There was a small amount of walking, not too challenging physically. My highlights included the Mostar bridge at night, exploring the beautiful and tragic history of Sarajevo, and the limestone scenery of Bosnia. Both Mostar and Dubrovnik were extremely overcrowded with other tourists, even outside peak season. I had looked for an introduction to the Balkans, and this holiday enabled me to have many exciting experiences in a short time. I would recommend it.

Rating for tour operator:

KE Adventures were efficient and helpful in every way. Our Serbian guide for the trip was good humoured, knowledgeable, and skilled at managing the group and sorting out problems for us. I was thoroughly convinced of the value of guided group holidays, when limited for time, and looking for new experiences in an unknown culture.

This was a wonderful holiday. The walks were beautiful, the mountains were spectacular, the food was excellent and the hospitality and guiding were both superb. I’d recommend this holiday to anyone who is a capable and fit hillwalker and who enjoys good food. Jamie and Ailsa (the hosts and owners of the farm at which we stayed) were friendly and helpful. The location of the farm is great, with mountain views, friendly goats, fruit trees – and probably the most spectacularly situated swimming pool ever, surrounded by a limestone crag, ringed by herbs and flowers and with mountain views. At sunrise and sunset, it’s a sublime place for a dip or a long swim. We were led on the walks by Stefano, with whom Jamie and Ailsa have a long-standing business relationship. Stefano (joined on one walk by his colleague Danielo) provided confident, well-planned mountain guiding on all five walks. Two were in the Appenines and three in the Apuane Alps. Both have very different characteristics, geology, landcapes and fauna. Stefano was just wonderful with the members of the party with slight vertigo (some parts of the paths were exposed, though any scrambling was easy). His knowledge of the area’s history was a real bonus, telling us of recent (eg wartime partisans) and more ancient history. Examples include the pagan importance of the rock arch (altars where double sunrise/sunset occurs), Italian Unification, former Princedoms, Hannibal’s Fields, the importance of the Appenines in Italy’s culture. He was also well versed in the mountain flora and fauna – including which mushrooms could be eaten and which not! The food at Col di Lavacchio (Jamie and Ailsa’s organic farm) is sublime. It was like going to a friend’s house where they had really pulled the stops out in cooking a meal. Ailsa is a professional chef – and it shows. Every evening meal was different and showed off local and home-grown produce. The pizza night (a wood-fired pizza oven) was great fun. Packed lunches contained gems like home-made pies and grain salads – no ham and cheese sandwiches! A leisurely breakfast, served outside, was granola, orange juice, eggs, toast and homemade jams. To be honest, the one improvement I’d suggest is so trivial that it shows how perfect everything was - a faster toaster! We’re now back at home and whilst some of the memories are fading with work pressures, the warmth of welcome, the great walks and the company stay with us. Highly recommended!

Rating for tour operator:

KE are well established and offer more adventurous holidays than most operators. I have travelled with them twice before and found the quality of service to be excellent. They choose good local agents and provide a more all-inclusive holiday than most competitors. In this case, we had chosen a different holiday, which despite being labelled 'guaranteed' was cancelled - we were told due to other clients cancelling. Although in the end KE resolved the issue and agreed to pay the price difference for the flights, this was preceded by attempts to 'upsell' much more expensive holidays, even though similar ones were available (we looked at the Website ourselves). In the end the holiday was just fantastic and I don't want the original upsets to overshadow this - but I feel that it's only right to post an honest review in relation to what happened and how I felt about it.

KE Adventure Travel responded to this review on 02 Oct 2018:

We are pleased that we were able to find you a holiday that you enjoyed so much and are sorry that you felt we were trying to upsell a more expensive holiday. We can assure you this was not the case. Following the late cancellations by other members of your original group, our Adventure Travel Consultant worked with you over several days to find an alternative holiday which matched your requirements and we covered all the additional costs involved.

The scenery was absolutely stunning, especially the lush valleys and lakes, and the higher mountain huts with extraordinary panoramic views of the Julian Alps. I had been trekking in the Dolomites before so had some experience of hut-to-hut trekking but it was fantastic to have the expertise of our guide David to not just tell us about the local area we were in but about some of the history and culture of Slovenia as well. The climb up Triglav was unlike anything I had done before but I felt completely confident in the ability of David and Luca, and additional guide who joined us for support on the summit ascent. The whole week was so much fun - I went on my own but we all got along so well as a group and supported each other on some of the tougher parts! Some of the week was more challenging, and I definitely feel fitter and healthier on my return. I would not hesitate to book another trip with KE - I was so impressed with how smoothly everything ran. I just wish I was back up in the Slovenian alps!

Where else in the world do you have mountains, volcanoes, rainforests, waterfalls, rivers, coral reefs and tropical beaches all on an island the size of Dorset?! The icing on the cake was watching the volcano erupt in the early hours of the morning while trekking up to the highest point in the Indian Ocean, that is a memory which will stay with me forever. It was so perfect you would of thought it was staged! I would honeslty go back and do the exact same holiday again tomorrow if I could, it was that good.

KE was excellent, they provided all necessary information and were very helpful whenever I rang them to ask questions. i even spoke to one of their employees for 20 minutes about the holiday as they had previously been on it.
