Walking through Tuscany
Excellent hiking trip walking through rolling hills of Tuscany and then climbing up to hilltop towns at the end of the day. The countryside is beautiful, even when it rained. Bring poles for sure as the clay soil in Tuscany is incredibly slippery in the rain. We stayed an extra night in Montalcino and 2 nights in Montepulciano. Highly recommend as there is so much to see around and in the towns.

Rating for tour operator:This was our fourth trip with On Foot and they were excellent as usual. So responsive, professional and yet personal at the same time. We tell everyone to try On Foot.
Great walks in Tuscany
We had an excellent walking holiday in Tuscany but had to make concessions due to previous months rain, muddy trails.

Rating for tour operator:On Foot was a great tour operator- great downloaded maps/GPS program for use on iPhone. Excellent local contact for our hike. Great accommodations.
Self Guided Walking in Southern Tuscany
We undertook a self-guided walk through Southern Tuscany in September 2024. On Foot Holiday organized our accommodation, luggage transfers, and, where required, taxi transfers. This was a magnificent walk through gorgeous countryside, well within the capabilities of anyone who is reasonably fit. We enjoyed overnight accommodation in hilltop towns and, of course, savoured the delicious regional food and wines.

Rating for tour operator:On Foot Holidays is a pleasure to work with. They are prompt and responsive, with an admirable attention to detail. Their walking packs are customized to one's travel plans, and contain a wealth of supporting information, including restaurant recommendations. I want particularly to mention their maps and walking directions, which are comprehensive and easy to follow. They have also recently developed a companion app that includes daily GPS-enabled topographical maps. This app provides an extra level of assurance that one is on the right track. And one more thing: they have engaged a local representative who is available for advice and assistance.
Inaccurate and poor communication
The description of the walk as an ‘amble’ was so inaccurate to be dangerous. We had terrible communication from the B&Bs and were even told “sorry I’m only the owner, I have nothing to do with the day to day dealings”. The ‘local’ tour guide was not sighted, and was worse than useless. Would not recommend at all.

Rating for tour operator:No good.
We were very surprised to see this from this client, as the feedback from our Tuscany route (which she did) is generally very good indeed, and local contact Daniele (who is not a "guide" incidentally - all our walks are self-guided) is always being particularly praised for his assiduousness in helping clients with matters great and small. The walk is rated Medium on our website, and nowhere is the word "amble" used. However we are very sorry that the experience generally did not work for her. We are in touch with Daniele to see what might have gone wrong and will learn from the experience.
Please see comments above.

Rating for tour operator:Onfoot holidays provided great support before the trip and while we didn't need much for them once we were on our way, when we did contact our local contact, the communication was flawless.
A wander through idyllic scenery between ancient hill top towns untroubled by the passage of time.
On Foot Holidays (booking ID22019 Allhusen). On Foot Holidays (booking ID22019 Allhusen). A very, very well planned wander through the vine clad, rolling hills and ancient, fortified hill top towns of Tuscany where steep narrow alleys often resort to time worn steps and corners that had not anticipated the arrival of motor cars 500 years later. We quite expected to meet a fourteenth century merchant clad in dark robes with fur collar hurrying to deliver an order for marble required by Michaelangelo or more wine for yet another Medici banquet. Surely Dante rested beneath this gnarled oak, quill in hand, as he pondered on his next work of genius. Many of the excellent choice of hotels and hostelries that On Foot holidays had researched on our behalf seemed unperturbed by the triviality of modern times confident that their ancient walls would outsee the present era. Their comfort and local fare perfectly enhanced the surroundings giving plentiful succour to tired limbs. For those not wishing to think too much, or indeed at all, about admin matters when on holiday preferring to enjoy the ancient landcape and ponder on the thought that Sandro Botticelli once walked this route as he headed to Florence to receive his next commission, or maybe Caravaggio fled along the woodland track pursued by those more interested in his violent deeds than his mastery of chiaroscuro? Help is at hand! Stepping away from the mists of bygone ages we were hugely impressed by the technology provided by On Foot. Having done many of these holidays we know that the paperwork can often detract. Once we had reams of maps and instructions held in ungainly wallets that required constant reference to remember where we are, had we yet passed the cross roads at point 26.3? Constant debate with fellow travellers about whether that is the village we need or is it another. No longer! Now all is held within the ubiquitous phone. A polite 'ping' alerts us to pay attention for a moment. An amusingly reproacful 'pong' if we dared to wander 50 yards from the route. And much else besides. Snippets of history, geography, local customers, recommendations for aperitifs and dinner. All in the palm of your hand delivered from above. Galileo, master of celestial movement, would have loved it. I am sure he smiled when we stood beside his tomb.
Rating for tour operator:They really care and seem to instinctively know what we would like. A very personal and personable experience dealing with them. Ps apologies if this is the second submission. The first evaporated! If so delete this one
On Foot Holidays delivers again in Tuscany
Over eight days, we walked country roads and paths through vineyards and olive groves, arriving each day in some marvelous spot, usually with a commanding view of the surrounding area. On Foot chose fantastic accommodations and made everything seamless and easy for us. The new app they are using is really great!

Rating for tour operator:Second trip with On Foot and we'll be back for more. They deliver consistently and never miss a beat. Leading up to the trip, it doesn't matter who in the office caught my email, they responded quickly and thoroughly. Their local contact was also notable for quick and helpful responses (on the rare occasion that more was needed). They are just the best -- and also a very good value! Have already recommended them to numerous friends.
Beautiful walk through Tuscany
Three friends and I did the On Foot Holidays walk through Tuscany the last week of May 2024. We had a wonderful time. The trip surpassed my already high expectations. We enjoyed all the places that we stayed- the rooms were clean and we always had a private bath. The staff at each place was friendly and helpful. The maps and information that On Foot provided us with were excellent. We had no problem navigating our walk. We were very lucky to have sunny, beautiful weather the entire week. Needless to say we loved the Italian food and wine.
Rating for tour operator:On Foot Holidays was extremely responsive to all our needs and questions. Their informational walking packet and their app were exceptional. I have absolutely no complaints. Our trip went off without a hitch.
Stunning Trek in Tuscany
The whole experience was fantastic, even more spectacular than my friend and I imagined. Wei did the 5 night Tuscan trek, starting at Buonconvento through to Multipulciano. Right from the start we were utterly stunned by the scenery; the endless rolling hills, the iconic cypress trees, the vineyards and the 360 degree views. We used the recommended GPS as well but it wasn't really needed though a good backup.
Rating for tour operator:On Foot Holidays were excellent, returning messages very quickly, giving us advice as to where to stay for a few extra days afterwards (Multipulciano, Siena and Pisa). My friend had an ankle injury before the holiday and we were unsure how much we would be able to do; On Foot Holidays gave us advice about the individual days and shorter alternatives. They could not have been more friendly and helpful.
Terrific Trek in Tuscany
Walking from town to town across Tuscany is amazing. The region is a spectacular experience for all the senses; awesome views, wonderful smells, different sounds, tasty tastes, and the walking provides all the touch you need! We walked from Montalcino toMontepulciano over three days and cannot wait to do more.

Rating for tour operator:On Foot Travels does a great job planning and preparing, both responsive and accommodating. The trail plan they provided and supporting materials and app provided all that we needed. The b&b’s / hotels were delightful and in many cases offered great views of the countryside.
