This was our second Peter Sommer tour, and it was as satisfying as the first (to the Cyclades). Having Greek history and culture brought alive as we stood on seaside castle walls and among windswept hilltop ruins was truly memorable. The colorful, carefully selected accommodations and restaurants enhanced the trip, as did the amazing and varied landscape and lovely towns. Our guides were extremely knowledgeable and articulate.

Our Peloponnese trip in October 2024 was a brilliant expedition and truly a tour for connoisseurs. The organisation was seamless and our group proved to be well-travelled, super fun and energised. Our two guides, Michael and Nota, were so enthusiastic and their animated narrative put the Peloponnese in thrilling historical and cultural perspective. They brought Classical history to life and placed us ‘in the moment.’ At no stage did we ever feel like lumpen tourists being led around by the nose: in fact, as a group we were participating in history and, literally, reenacting combat tactics as fierce Spartan hoplites! The food everywhere was outstanding, delicious and extremely healthy. We can’t recommend Peter Sommer’s tours too highly.

Travelled by good coach usually alternating 1 then 2 nights in any given location. Very well researched and delivered activities. Excellent food and guides. a group able to gel but individuals able to do their own thing too.

Understand what they are good at and strong focus making the experience enjoyable and easy.

Our guides, Nota and Michael, made ruins and artwork come to life with superb storytelling that placed events and people in context so we could imagine ourselves competing in the ancient Olympics, training for military duty in Sparta and living in medieval castles. They introduced us to gorgeous scenery, Greek wine and local food, including goat in parchment paper.

The deep experience of Peter Sommer Travels is evident in every tour detail, from choosing perfect restaurants and hotels, to timing our arrival at popular sites to avoid peak crowds and employing a skilled bus driver to navigate narrow roads. Our guides answered myriad questions with knowledge and patience. They cared about each traveler personally. I hope to be able to take another Peter Sommer tour soon.

"Exploring the Peloponnese" was an extraordinary tour in every respect and sets a high bar for the way we will seek to travel from now on. It was a truly immersive, in-depth learning experience that was edifying and intellectually stimulating, while also fun, convivial, scenically magnificent, and quite satisfying to the tastebuds. Peter Sommer is a first rate tour operator. There is no commercialism or swag or stops made to sell you things -- just a comprehensive, focused, and substantive tour designed to illuminate the history and art of the region and to make it all enjoyable, fun, and authentic. Our two guides, Nota and Michael, were outstanding in their brilliance, their expertise, and their ability to impart their passion for the art and history to all of us, making it come alive. They did it with a smile, with warmth, and with great senses of humor. They have the organization of the tour down to a science, and we truly appreciated that our days were ordered to avoid the crowds. There was also a kind of suspense building progression built into the itinerary; the narrative is all tied together in dramatic conclusion. Alas, we were sad to reach the end, even after fifteen very full days of touring. The Peloponnese is a lovely and fascinating region of Greece, with so much to see and experience.

This trip exceeded our expectations! It was a sheer pleasure to tour the Peloponnese in its springtime glory in the company of our enthusiastic, knowledgeable and charismatic guides Michael and Nota who brought history, archaeology and culture to life with such verve.

This was our sixth trip with Peter Sommer Travels both on gulets and on the road in Turkey, Greece, Italy and Croatia. Each tour is carefully crafted, with great detail given to all aspects of each trip to maximise the enjoyment of the whole experience for each participant, encompassing archaeology, history, local culture, gastronomy and always consideration of personal comforts. These tours offer a total immersion in place and time. We plan to return for more!

My first tour with Peter Sommer Travels. I have done many guided tours with other companies but this one was the best and exceeded expectation. It won't be my last trip with them.. Every aspect was first rate - the very comprehensive itinerary, the superb planning, the attention to detail, the guides, the accomodation, not only the food itself but the stunning locations of some of the restaurants, the thoughtful coffee and comfort stops along the way and a comfortable bus with a very capable driver. who made you feel very safe even on quite precarious roads.

The two guides were very special and really made the trip for me. We were very fortunate to have an archaeologist and a historian both with extensive knowledge and who gave very engaging presentations wherever we were. They were also delightful company and fun to be with. They both worked extremely hard to satisfy the group's needs and demands and this was done with much grace and patience.

This was our first time on an organized tour and it was far more than we expected. Everything was very well organized, not just logistically, but also in terms of explaining and visiting sites around an area with a long and complicated history. We learned so much! The hotels and bus were comfortable and the food was fabulous. We did not have a single mediocre meal. Very enjoyable. We are already considering another trip with this operator.

The tour guides Michael and Nota were so knowledgeable, explaining everything and telling stories about each site we visited. They were very personable and considerate of every participant and all our individual needs. Couldn't have asked for better guides to spend 2 weeks with.
