Lovely Walking on Andros

Staying in Chora, we enjoyed five challenging but very beautiful walks around the island.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot provided us with lots of helpful information and maps. Found it very easy to find the routes and to follow the map using their new app. They know the areas well and have friendly contacts to support clients while they are away, should they need it.

Walking in Unspoiled Islands of the Greek Archipelago

I have just finished two back to back walking holidays in three of the less visited Greek Islands, Andros, Naxos, and Amorgos. I have just finished two back to back walking holidays in three of the less visited Greek Islands, Andros, Naxos, and Amorgos. On each of the three islands we were based in a small town and the walks either took off from the towns directly or were accessed with a local taxi service, which allowed us to experience a diversity of walking venues, and I saw many remote places that I never would have been able to find on my own. I consider myself most fortunate to have had the opportunity to experience the physical and cultural geography of these three islands which remain almost completely unadulterated by 21st century mass tourism.

Rating for tour operator:

Over the past ten years I have done similar walking trips with five other companies, and I consider On Foot to be in a class of its own. The plan of each of the walks I have taken with On Foot has been carefully thought out in conjunction with knowledgeable local people to take the best advantage of the physical and cultural resources of the area, and there has always been a local support person who has been genuinely committed to looking after walkers' needs. The people in the home office have been very conscientious about keeping track of clients' potential logistical problems, and I particularly appreciated their help in helping to unravel the mysteries of Greek ferry schedules.

Idyllic hiking on a Greek Island far from the madding crowds

Spent five nights in Andros with well-structured hikes curated by OnFoot holidays. Very enjoyable stay - the hiking path markers were excellent, and OnFoot offered useful shortening options if you wished to use them. Local contacts were all very friendly and helpful. Hikes were uncrowded but towns had good facilities without being overrun by tourists. Sea was divine after a hot day's walking.

A true Greek Odyssey

A self-guided walking holiday which combined two On-Foot holidays on three Greek islands. All three islands were very different from each other ranging from lush rustic areas of Andros, the olde town on Naxos and to the more mountainous Amorgos. The wild flowers and birdsong helped compliment many a walk and it was a joy to discover lesser-known parts of the islands.

Attentive, responsive and friendly. We particularly appreciated their attention to detail, given there were so many connections and much to arrange. On Foot were also able to advise on parts of the holiday we arranged ourselves at the beginning (a short stay in Athens) and during the middle of the holiday (a short stay on the island of Tinos.) We highly recommend On Foot holidays and this was our 8th and 9th holiday with this tour operator. They have always exceeded our expectations.

Great walking on well-signposted paths

Anemomiloi Apartments, our hotel in Chora, was very comfortable. The room was spacious and clean, breakfast by the pool was excellent, as were the packed lunches. It made a pleasant change for us to be based in one place, enabling us to decide on a daily basis which walk to tackle or whether just to laze on a beach and swim in the lovely warm sea. The paths were varied and very well marked. All in all, an ideal destination for autumn walking...

Great walking in beautiful scenery

We had a 5 day walking holiday on the Greek island of Andros. The walking routes were varied but all of them beautiful and very well way marked. Andros is a green and bounteous island so quite different from many of the Cyclades. On Foot holidays provided great support both before our trip and through their support network on the island. We stayed at the lovely Anemomiloi Apartments in Chora where our host George was so welcoming and generous.

Hard walking (at least for me), excellent hotel, very pleasant town, lots of sunshine.

Great organisation and beautiful place

Andros is a beautiful island not geared in any way to mass tourism so very special. The main town of Chora is pretty and easily navigable mostly by foot. We had a perfect holiday with a good long walk every day but plenty of down time on the beach and beside the pool at our very sweet hotel.

The On Foot office team are so efficient - they sorted out our holiday to exactly meet our needs and the hotel in particular was really special. All the walking notes and maps were great.

Wonderful trip

The organisation of the holiday was exceptional. The accommodation, and taxi service worked very well. The routes were well marked on Andros and the maps and walk descriptions were good. There were a few errors in one of the printed booklets which caused us some confusion but we were able to work out that explanations for different walks had got mixed up and other members of my party have highlighted these to the company and to the local rep.

Wonderful walking trails, spectacular scenery, excellent food and accomodation on Andros

Six day walking holiday based in Chora on Andros, a two hour ferry ride from Athens. Spectacular scenery, very well marked and maintained walking trails, peace and quiet, delicious fresh food and friendly people. Lovely hotel accomodation on a traditional and unspoiled Greek island.

Everything from initial contact to final documentation is efficient, precise and helpful. The walking notes are extremely clear and useful background information is also provided. On Foot really know their walking destinations so I am happy to be totally guided by their experience and recommendations.
