A superlative experience of Namibia

Namibia is a huge country with masses of variety so we are really glad that we went to experts who knew the place well and could advise us on our options. We used a mixture of self-drive car hire and small-plane flights to get around and enjoyed not having to drive everywhere on gravel roads. Luckily we had no punctures but met several people who had had several. We have seldom come home with so many excellent photos and extraordinary memories...

We loved climbing and sliding down the dunes at Sossusvlei, also the seal colony at Cape Cross and game viewing at Etosha.

Great multicentre tour of the Western Cape.

Myself and my wife stayed 4 nights in Cape Town. We then picked up a car and went on a multi-centre self-drive holiday around the Western Cape. We stayed in Franschoek (3 nights), Hermanus (2 nts), Knysna (3 nts) and Fancourt (3 nts). We then flew from George back to Cape Town and onward to the UK. We played 4 different golf courses and visited several vineyards.

I tasked Cedarberg with putting together a roadtrip around the W Cape. I booked the Intl Flights myself and only contacted them 21 days before we were due to fly! Cedarberg put together a detailed itinerary, booked all hotels, accommodation, golf and the car. They communicated with us on a daily basis and always checked that places (and golf) were available before making recommendations. All their recommendations were exactly what we wanted. The supporting documentation with directions and tips meant the holiday went without a single hiccup in spite of the many different bookings.

Cedarberg Africa responded to this review on 22 Nov 2016:

Thank you Trevor for that lovely feedback, we're delighted that it all went so well. We enjoy the imposed focus of a time challenge when putting an itinerary together (but that doesn't mean we want all our clients to give us that same challenge!).

Amazing Wildlife Trip

The accommodation was lovely and we had an amazing view across the river enabling us to watch the wildlife from our room. Had a very memorable coffee stop when approximately 100 buffalo arrived at the watering hole we had stopped at. Lucky enough to see two different families of white rhino as well as all the other big 5. Food was wonderful with a constant variety and they catered for our dietary needs. Trip of a lifetime. Our kids said we thought it would be good but not that good !

All of the accommodation was superb, with excellent food and wonderful hosts. The scenery was spectacular, blue seas, white sands, mountains, lagoons, rivers and then there was the wildlife. The wildlife was magical and oh so glorious we never thought we would get so close to them in their natural habitat. Whilst staying at De Hoop Nature Reserve we were woken in the middle of the night by a herd of zebra one of which was rubbing an itch on a fence post outside our bedroom window ! Where else in the world can you sit on the beach and see whales and their calves in the bay, sea lions on rocks, penguins nesting and swimming, ostriches strutting their stuff ? The safari was fantastic, we got up close to a herd of elephants with their babies, lions in all their glory, rhinos, hippos, wilderbeast, warthogs, Buffaloes, giraffes, birds too numerous to name. It was awesome, truly the trip of a lifetime, as my sons aged nine and 13 said "we thought it would be good but not that good".

Rating for tour operator:

Our tour operator Cedarberg Africa was excellent, they were recommended to us and we would recommend them highly. They were efficient, organised, helpful, informative, and friendly. Their experience of organising tours in South Africa was instrumental in making our holiday go as smoothly as possible with no hitches and no stress. We spoke to fellow travellers who had organised their own trip and stayed in places they wished they hadn't !. Fortunately because of Cedarberg's expertise we enjoyed every minute of our stay in South Africa and loved every place we visited.

Cedarberg Africa responded to this review on 27 Oct 2016:

Delighted that the holiday surpassed your family's high expectations! There really is nothing like the thrill of being on safari, and that first experience is truly magical. And like you say, there's so much more to enjoy in South Africa than safari.

Cedarberg Africa responded to this review on 27 Oct 2016:

Thank you, we're so pleased that we were able to make sure that it all worked so well, and that you enjoyed all the properties you stayed at.

Superb safari in Zambia

Our Norman Carr safari (Luwi, Nsolo and Kakuli) was outstanding. Brilliant team within each camp and really excellent food. Our guides and scouts were the best and most knowledgeable of any of our trips to southern Africa. Each camp had its own character and we loved the different "rooms". Chongwe River camp is a lovely setting and the tents very comfortable. Spotlessly clean too. The proximity to elephant and hippo surely won't ever be beaten. Nice to see game from a different angle on the river. Management team good (but not at the perfect standard of the Norman Carr camps) Food at Chongwe was disappointing. We didn't go hungry but a couple of meals were of an unacceptable standard. Again, Norman Carr camps showed what could be done.

Excellent service. My wife and I have used Cedarberg four times now and each trip has been perfectly tailored. I spent some time chatting to Peter about what we were after and what sort of place and accommodation would suit us. Each destination has hit the mark. I have been so pleased with their service I recommended them to my in-laws who have now booked their first trip to South Africa.

Cedarberg Africa responded to this review on 27 Oct 2016:

Really pleased that you had such a good safari - Zambia really is a safari gem.

Cedarberg Africa responded to this review on 27 Oct 2016:

Thanks Rob, it's been a pleasure putting the holidays together for you, and we are delighted to welcome your in-laws into the Cedarberg family!

Great holiday but I think the communications from the travel agency could have been better and more accurate.

Went on Safari in East Africa. Incredibly expensive and I am not sure where the money actually goes but the countries I visited and the animals/ scenery I saw were fantastic.

Good itinerary but there were some aspects of the trip that changed and I was not informed.

Cedarberg Africa responded to this review on 22 Nov 2016:

Our client was understandably frustrated when the itinerary routing of her small group tour was altered and we'd not been forewarned.

Cedarberg Africa responded to this review on 22 Nov 2016:

We're really sorry that we couldn't remedy this while our client was still away. We hope that the partial refund will be better than nothing.

Outstanding!

We travelled to Namaqualand for the flowers and to Madikwe on safari. Everything was superb. Accommodation throughout was very comfortable, clean and safe. Travel arrangements worked well and on time. The flowers in Namaqualand are one of nature's spectacles and a joy to behold. Tuningi Lodge where we stayed in Madikwe Game Reserve was very special and a highlight of the trip.
