Bamboo Travel have been helping us with our travels in South East Asia for quite a few years now and, although their website shows suggested tours, they are expert in tailoring trips to suit individual travellers' interests. On several of our trips, Bamboo have arranged for us to travel between destinations by train rather than by car, as trains are one of my husbands great interests. In Bagan, having no head for heights, I preferred to miss the sunset view and, while my husband and our guide climbed the pagoda, our driver refused to leave me on my own and took me to see the rest of the drivers taking a break – the older ones playing a card game while the younger ones played their version of « keepy-uppy » '. On the same trip to Myanmar in 2015 we visited the usual sights in Mandalay, Bagan and Yangon but Bamboo also arranged for us to spend 3 hours on horseback in the countryside around Bagan. The land out in this area is deep soft sand, inaccessible by motor vehicle, but easily negotiable by ox-cart or horse. We passed through villages where the women and children rushed outside to wave to us and were even invited by the men of one village council to dismount and take coffee with them, something we regretfuly declined. The horses were initially surprised by the white oxen but soon became accustomed as every time we rounded a bend there were more to see. The oxen, however, on one occasion took serious exception to our group of three horses and riders and took off at a gallop across a field, towing the wooden plough behind them and pursued on foot by the farmer. We still giggle at the memory. In Yangon instead of showing us the University buildings, our guide took us to an artists' gallery and workshop where she also interpreted for me so that I could exchange ideas with the artists.

Bamboo Travel are specialists in tours to South East Asia. Their staff are experts in finding side trips and extras to add to or modify suggested itineraries. The companies they use locally in each country are all excellent, both in terms of organisation and personnel.

Beth's Grand Tour 2013

For a number of years we have spent part of late U.K. winter in visiting the Far East from a Bangkok base. This time we took our granddaughter since,at 8, we judged she was old enough to benefit from the experience, as had our children at the same age. Bamboo Travel as usual provided a sound framework for the trip which involved Bangkok, Luang Prabang, Hue, Hoi Anh, Dalat and Can Tho.The guides took great care of Beth and the Vietnamese especially ...

Bamboo Travel as usual provided a sound framework for the trip which involved Bangkok, Luang Prabang, Hue, Hoi Anh, Dalat and Can Tho.The guides took great care of Beth and the Vietnamese especially were fascinated by an English rose. From visiting a school up country in Laos to squatting on a pineapple boat eating pineapple lollipops fashioned by the boatman in Can Tho, she had an unforgettable time. Her experience and photographs have been encapsulated in a book of the trip about which she gave a 45 minute show and tell presentation to her classmates!

This year we are extending our Indochina tour to Nepal which promises high interest on a number of levels with the assurance of comfort and security from the choice of hotels. The choice of guides has provided not only insights into local places of interest but a direct experience of local life.

sSo Good we're using them again!

We booked to go to Vietnam, Cambodia and Loas in spring 2014 on a tailor-made tour booked with Bamboo Travel. The discussions and numerous emails exchanged between us ensured that all our needs were catered for when we got to our destination. couldn't fault anything on the ground or in the office.

Bamboo Travel booked our holiday in south-East Asia in 2014 after very professional discussions and keenly priced tours. We had no hesitation in asked them to quote on our next trip to there backyard, as we are going with them once again in February 2017. Even though we asked other operators to quote they once again beat the prices of others and have proved excellent in back office arrangements.

Grand Tour of Indochina - 3 weeks of adventure and fun!

We never quite managed to take a honeymoon, so after 3 years of marriage, we decided to spend 3 weeks away. We arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, then spent a few days exploring Siem Reap and the Angkor Wat temple complex, then up to Luang Prabang in Laos for a few days (wow it was warm). We then flew into Saigon, for a walking tour with our guide, followed by a trip to Halong Bay, for a night on the water. Back into Saigon for a flight to Hue, and after a fantastic tour, we drove over the Hai Van Pass and through Da Nang, ending with 6 days in Hoi An, sitting by the pool or sea, reading, relaxing. The holiday had a perfect balance or organised trips, tours and experiences, mixed with plenty of free time for us to explore and find our own way. I would highly recommend visiting the region, and would suggest staying for as long as possible. We were there for 3 weeks, but it felt like we could spend 4 times as long to really explore everything the region has to offer.

Rating for tour operator:

Bamboo Travel were recommend to us by friends and family, for offering bespoke, quality tours. They certainly delivered. From the very outset of our planning with Bamboo, we could tell they were experts in what they were organising, suggesting changes and offering ideas for things to do and see. We were working to a budget, and Bamboo really helped us get the best for our money. We could have saved a little bit by going on a pre-packaged, group tour, but we are so glad that we didn't. The itinerary that Bamboo supplied was exemplary. Everything we needed to know was made available online and in a folder. The after-sales support was also superb, helping us plan visas, transport ideas, and generally offering their wealth of knowledge. With every guide and driver that Bamboo arranged we felt safe and well looked after. We both really enjoyed the bespoke nature of the tour, and the hotels that Bamboo chose were lovely. I will be booking again with Bamboo, and highly recommend their services, no matter how big or small.

We are about to book our 3rd trip with them so they must be good

We travelled to both China and Burma with Bamboo and we were treated as individual with each tour being tailored specifically to what we wanted and not what Bamboo already had in place. Hotels brilliant, tour guides exceptional and Bamboo a delight to deal with.

Rating for tour operator:

We are listened to, everything is discussed in detail, changed and amended to our requirements. We had a very minor issue whilst in China and it was dealt with at speed and with great efficiency and most of all, without fuss. They are a delight to deal with in the UK with nothing too much trouble. On top of that, their back-up information and trip literature/web itinerary 'Vamoos' is brilliant.
