This offbeat and adventurous trip includes a 11-night safari in Zambia's South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi, using two small, owner-run operations; you'll walk between most of the camps during seven nights in South Luangwa, following part of the route that David Livingstone took when he journeyed through the area; you’ll then finish your choice.
Days 1-3
3 nights Tafika – South Luangwa National Park, Zambia
Having arrived in Lusaka, you'll connect onto a flight to Mfuwe (about 90 minutes), the airport which acts as the gateway to South Luangwa. There you'll be met and driven about two hours to the top small camp of Tafika for 3 nights. You should arrive in time for an excellent lunch.
Days 4-5
2 nights Chikoko Tree Camp – South Luangwa National Park, Zambia
After walks and drives from Tafika, you’ll cross the Luangwa River into the walking-only area run by Remote Africa Safaris where there are no roads or vehicles. Your luggage will be carried for you, and you’ll then walk for 3 hours or so to reach Chikoko Tree Camp. Here you’ll stay for 2 nights to enjoy top walking safaris in this the area with an expert guide.
Days 6-7
2 nights Crocodile Bushcamp – South Luangwa National Park, Zambia
This morning you’ll walk with your guide to Chikoko’s sister-camp (as always, your luggage is carried separately), which will be your home for 2 nights. Your days here are for concentrated, undisturbed big game walking safaris, in the company of an expert guide; your base is Crocodile Camp.
Days 8-11
4 nights Old Mondoro Bushcamp – Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia
As part of your morning activity, you'll be taken by road first through the park and then through the villages of Mfuwe and back to the airport. From there a light aircraft will transfer you via Lusaka down to Lower Zambezi, where you'll be met and taken to your next bush-camp, Old Mondoro, situated beside the Zambezi River in a grove of towering winterthorn trees. The camp offers a diversity of activities including walking safaris, day and night game drives, canoeing, boat trips and catch-and-release fishing. You’ll stay for 4 nights at Old Mondoro.
Day 12
You transfer by 4WD back to the Lower Zambezi airstrip for your light aircraft flight back to Lusaka Airport where you continue on your own onward arrangements.
