Arriving in Tashkent you explore the city’s sights, both old and new, before travelling into the beautiful Chimgan mountains for three days of alpine walking. Next you head to Khiva packed with spectacular mausoleums, mosques and madrasahs, before travelling to Bukhara, a unique ‘open air’ museum whose historic centre boasts countless bazaars and blue-domed mosques. From Bukhara you drive into the Nuratau mountains where you receive a warm welcome, staying in simple family guesthouses and experiencing everyday rural life as you walk quiet trails between traditional Uzbek villages. The final stop is undoubtedly the most celebrated of all: Samarkand, home to the famous Registan Square, one of the most visually stunning examples of Islamic architecture to be found anywhere in the world.
