The Beautiful West Highland Railway
We were amazed by the beauty of the scenery on our West Highland Railway journey. The Isle of Skye was also a wonderful experience.

Rating for tour operator:Everything worked like clockwork. The hotels that were selected were excellent. We would definitely use this company again.
A wonderful experience, full of rewarding memories and nostalgia.
We had a rewarding tour of the Isle of Skye which is a truly beautiful island. The people are very cheerful and friendly and always prepared to help. Another wonderful experience was the steam train ride from Fort William to Mallaig. It was a nostalgic return to pre Beaching days as the carriages and engine were from "days gone by". The two hotels we stayed at provided very good food using local produce. A very enjoyable break.

Rating for tour operator:They provided excellent paperwork, setting out our holiday and ensuring all aspects were covered. All journeys were booked including flights, train journeys, ferries and hire car organised. Everything worked perfectly and we have been very pleased with the results.
A wonderful break in the Scottish Highlands
McKinlay Kidd organized a 5 day trip for my sister and myself by train to the Scottish Highlands and the Isle of Skye. Everything was perfectly organized and we were very happy that they use small local independent firms and hotels. Excellent.

3 days of balmy bliss in the Highlands and onto Syke
'We want to go to Scotland' said mum and dad...they just didn't know where... A few months later, we left Glasgow, our stay at the Grasshopper Hotel having got us off to a blissful start (the help yourself homemade ice cream was impressive). The West Highland Line took us up to Spean Bridge for our first night at the Old Pines which was just fantastic: a great location, great food and brilliant owners who just made everything so easy. The West Highland Line took us up to Spean Bridge for our first night at the Old Pines which was just fantastic: a great location, great food and brilliant owners who just made everything so easy. From here it was the Jacobite train to Mallaig on a cloudless day, the ferry over to Skye and 2 more days on Sleat. Taking the island tour worked really well with a climb up the Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing and a visit to the Faerie Glen, the balmy weather stayed with us throughout with lovely long evenings sat eating out over the quayside with the most amazing views.
Rating for tour operator:They were brilliant: I'd checked out a couple of other operators without finding anything that really worked for us - Mckinlay Kidd were pretty exceptional from start to finish.
McKinlay Kidd provide Win- Win Holidays
I had a 4-day break travelling on the West Highland Way heading for the Isle of Skye. Rail strikes on both the day of departure and return meant that, very shortly before I left Edinburgh, the travel arrangements had to be changed completely so that I could still go but by bus, not train, and with taxis meeting me at different places (e.g. at Fort William instead of Spean Bridge). Everything went smoothly, but this is what you can expect from ...

Rating for tour operator:This was my third holiday arranged by McKinlay Kidd. Each time they provided a great service - thorough planning, flawless choices and recommendations, and personal touches which make you feel valued as a customer from the first contact they make with you. The company knows exactly what you will experience BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN THERE BEFORE YOU!
Many thanks indeed for your kind comments Emma. I am very pleased that the train strikes did not spoil the trip overall.
Jacobit Steam Train plus several days on the Isle of Skye
We flew to Edinburgh and spent the afternoon and night - trained it to Fort William via Glasgow - Jacobite Steam Train - to Malliaig. Ferry delayed McKinlay Kidd quick to arrange alternative. Car hired and drove around Skye. Accommodation arranged by McKinlay Kidd excellent - information and suggestions excellent. Dunvegan Castle and gardens plus seal boat most pleasant. Driving around Skye very relaxing and scenery wonderful. Another night ...

We travelled by the Jacobite steam train From Fort William to Mallaig and over the sea to Skye by ferry where we enjoyed a few days at the lovely hotel Eilean Larmain, Sleat. We took a day tour of the island with the Small group tour company. Our driver was Kathleen a mature lady with all the local information anyone could possibly need as she used to drive the school bus before retiring, quite a character. We enjoyed our stay on Skye very much even though it rained most of the time.
Rating for tour operator:The service we experienced from McKinlay Kidd was excellent we would recommend them to everyone they will plan the journey of your choice.
Thank you Joan, your comments are very much appreciated.
