Loch Ness, The Jacobite Train and Skye Guided Rail

A beautiful holiday filled with memorable experiences. We visited the Highlands and the Isle of Skye. On this trip we were on trains with views that could not be appreciated from roadways. McKinlay Kidd included an evening of storytelling and folk music. We would recommend McKinlay Kidd for UK travel!

Never enough!

I enjoyed every minute and every experience I had on McKinlay Kidd's Loch Ness, the Jacobite and Skye Train tour. A lovely small group tour with excellent guide

We did the 7 day trip from Glasgow to Edinburgh. We loved our guide, Kirin, and driver, Karen. They were top notch! They brought to life everything we saw with their passionate narrative and engaging stories. Beautiful country and people.

Scotland felt like home

I don't know that I have the words to adequately describe how much I enjoyed my trip to Scotland. It was my first visit to Scotland and I was awed and amazed and just generally thrilled with Glasgow, Fort Augustus, and Skye. I started in Glasgow a few days prior to the start of the official tour. In Glasgow, I walked and I biked and I saw a show. Loved that city. We stayed in Fort Augustus on the shore of Loch Ness., we rode the Jacobite ...

In Glasgow, I walked and I biked and I saw a show. Loved that city. We stayed in Fort Augustus on the shore of Loch Ness., we rode the Jacobite Steam Train, through Glenfinnan and past Loch Shiel, went to Skye, and then to Inverness for an overnight stop before going to Edinburgh where our tour ended. I stayed a couple of days after the tour ended, one on a road trip to Stirling and Loch Lomond (and the Kelpies!!). My last day was spent exploring Edinburgh. I must have taken close to 1000 pictures (I put most, not all, of them in an album in my Google account and when I was done, I had 850 pictures in it). I can't think of a single thing I'd have done differently, except maybe spend more time, because I needed more.

McKinlay Kidd was professional and patient with me (a neophyte traveler). The phone operators were friendly and personable and happy to take my payments because the online option kept resulting in me getting "Possible Fraud" warnings from my bank. In addition, when I decided, after I'd already made my down payment, that I'd like an extra night in Edinburgh at the end of my trip, McKiinlay Kidd was great about making that happen. The hotels were fabulous, our guide was fabulous, and our bus drivers were great (which shows that McKinlay Kidd has some great business associates). If I'm ever lucky enough to return to Scotland, I will defintely be contacting McKinlay Kidd again.

A Trip Through the Highlands

Our tour by train and bus through the Western Scottish Highlands was exceptional. Highlights included the Jacobite steam train, an up-close encounter with Highland cattle, and stays at some exceptional properties. Our tour guide was excellent, very informative and good at keeping us on track. Meals provided by the tour were also first rate.

Mother/Daughter Trip of Scotland. Solid Ten for both of us!

For my 65th birthday, I wanted to take my 29 year old daughter to a place where neither of us had been. We decided a trip to Scotland would fit the bill and I researched different options. I landed on McKinlay Kidd Company. From the online planning to the over the phone personal connection, I was impressed. The magic came when actually landing, having a few days to settle in, meeting fellow small group travelers and of course the tour guide...

The magic came when actually landing, having a few days to settle in, meeting fellow small group travelers and of course the tour guide. We had the trip of a lifetime. It was fun, interactive, easy to navigate, and we stayed at immaculate accommodations. Cieran was a breath of fresh air with his consideration and attentiveness to all. Not to mention his gift of storytelling!

Rating for tour operator:

McKinlay Kidd Company is top notch. Never had to worry about a thing. All questions, even the tiniest ones were answered and with the utmost professionalism and kindness. We loved the small group aspect as we were a mother and daughter with mostly other couples. I heard from many lodgings along the way that they appreciate the clients and company.

We hit the lottery

Just the most amazing week. Tour leader Dan was enthusiastic, personable, and accessible. Gold Standard. Bus driver Karen was Robin to his Batman. Small group I guess self-selected, we'll always favor this template.. All the right stuff without seeming crammed or rushed. Train travel is the bomb.

McKinlay Kidd arranged a wonderful train/bus tour of northern Scotland, through the Highlands and on the Isle of Skye. We stayed in lovely, boutique hotels with loads of history behind them and stupendous food, and visited historical castles, Loch Ness and other historical sites. When one of the trains -- the famous "Harry Potter" train was not available because of mechanical issues -- McKinlay Kidd made arrangements for additional perks and visits for all of us. With just 12 of us on the tour, we made wonderful friendships with the other travelers as we gained insight into how Scotland became what it is today.

Rating for tour operator:

Our tour guide, Andrew, knew the history and background in detail of everywhere we visited, and even places we were just passing by. Our driver, Karen, was stupendous too, maneuvering the bus along one-way roads and into tightly packed car parks. Both Karen and Andrew were so friendly and informative, they made the holiday a super one.
