Everest Base Camp trek is probably the most famous trek in the world because of its beauty, splendour and history. With our itinerary you get the opportunity to trek to both Ama Dablam Base Camp and Everest Base Camp; walk up to the summits of Kalapatar (5,554) and Gokyo Ri (5,340m) and to cross two high passes (Cho La and Renjo La).
The trek starts with an exciting flight in a Twin Otter plane to the mountain airstrip at Lukla, from here we follow in the footsteps of famous mountaineers for the walk into Everest Base Camp. We are now in Buddhist Sherpa country where you will see colourful prayer flags, mani walls and monasteries along the way. This is a more challenging alternative to the traditional trek to Everest Base Camp with an ascent of Kala Patar and Gokyo Ri as well as crossing the Himalayan mountain passes of Cho La and Renjo La.
After Base Camp we walk out over the Cho La pass into the Gokyo valley rather than retracing the same trail back to Namche as per the standard Everest Base Camp itinerary. In the morning we climb Gokyo Ri for views of the Everest massif and in the afternoon we explore the numerous glacial lakes in the area. After crossing our last pass of the Renjo La we descend into the Thame valley, one of the main trading routes with Tibet, and then walk back to Namche Bazaar and Lukla.
