15 Jun 2018 - Undiscovered Destinations, the UK pioneer of tours in Haiti launches a new 12 day escorted tour in this little visited Caribbean country.
Undiscovered Destinations is renowned for the pioneering nature of its small group tours and their latest offering in Haiti is no different.
Their new 12 day escorted tour features an authentic Vodou festival and a visit to the once off limits Port au Prince suberb of Cité Soleil, so travellers on this tour are certainly getting off the beaten track in the ‘Land of Mountains'.
This tour starts in the capital, Port au Prince and takes in visits to the laid back port town of Jacmel, with its wonderful art and craft shops. The tour then continues south along the coast to Port Salut, visiting the Marie Jeanne Caves, an elaborate cave system with beautiful underground rock formations.
The highlight of the trip is left to the end when a flight from Port au Prince heads over the mountains to the north and Haiti's second city, Cap Haitian. It is here that the group get to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of La Citadelle La Ferriere. This vast Citadelle is an imposing fortress built atop a mountain to resist a French invasion and gives stunning views over the Caribbean. This is an iconic image of Haiti and one that will last in the memory for a very long time.
Undiscovered Destinations has regular tours scheduled in Haiti between November and February. The tour costs £2175 per person based on two people travelling and sharing a room, excluding international flights. As with all Undiscovered Destinations tours, the groups are limited to a maximum of just 12 people.
