Borneo Wildlife Safari Overview

Spend 5 spectacular days in Borneo in search of wildlife. See the famous Orangutan before witnessing the exodus of millions of bats in the evening. A must do for wildlife seekers particularly those who want to maximize their chances of seeing the Orangutan in the wild.

Day 1: Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre to Sukau Rainforest Lodge

Meet your guide on arrival at Sandakan airport. Transfer to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre where you'll learn about the plight of the Orang Utan and see at first hand the conservation efforts. Take a ten minute through the rainforest on wooden boardwalks to witness the feeding of the orangutans at 1000 hrs. Continue to visit the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre to learn about conservation of the world's smallest bear.

After lunch, head to the Sandakan jetty to embark on a speedboat for a 2.5 hours boat journey up the Kinabatangan River to Sukau Rainforest Lodge. There will be opportunities along the way to view wildlife and birds, and if you're lucky, even the shy Bornean Pygmy Elephants.

In the early evening, head out into the wild on your river safari in search of wildlife and birds.

Return for a solar heated hot shower after sunset before enjoying a candlelight buffet dinner overlooking the mighty river. After dinner, join a night cruise tour to see more sleeping birds and animals and enjoy the magical night sky.

Day 2: Sukau Rainforest Lodge

Embark on a morning river cruise in search of wildlife and birds which are most active in the morning. After breakfast, proceed for an educational walking tour along the lodge's Hornbill Boardwalk with the in-house naturalist. After afternoon tea, head out onto the river once again in search of more wildlife. Breathe in the rainforest and capture the moments as you return at sunset from our final river cruise.

Day 3: Sukau Rainforest Lodge to Gomantong Caves

Take an early morning river cruise along the Menanggol River by electric motorboat in search of wildlife. returning for a full breakfast.

After lunch, make a 27 km overland journey to the Gomantong Cave. The cave is surrounded by primary rainforest, rich in fruiting wild figs which make it an ideal place to spot Orangutans in the wild. You will have time to explore the cave and its surroundings until sunset when you'll be overwhelmed by the exodus of over two million bats heading out for the night, swiftlets coming in to nest as well as raptors (eagles) swooping in and preying on the bats.

Return to Sukau Rainforest Lodge for overnight.

Day 4: Sukau Rainforest Lodge to Danum Valley

After breakfast, proceed 2 hours overland to Lahad Datu. Drive 83 km to the award-winning nature lodge, Borneo Rainforest Lodge. Enjoy lunch at the lodge and check-in before you explore the nature trails and river. In the evening, your guide conducts a slide show and if weather permits go spotlighting in search of nocturnal animals. Stay overnight at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge

Day 5: Danum Valley

An early morning bird walk is followed by breakfast. Spend the whole day exploring the forest for birds and mammals, leading up to an escarpment with ancient burial coffins. Trek to a nearby waterfall for a refreshing dip in the rock pool, enjoying a "fish massage". Lunch back at the lodge. In the afternoon, explore more trails leading to the canopy walkway or if the weather and river level permits, enjoy a fun "tubing" experience down the river. Stay overnight at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 6: Danum Valley to Kota Kinabalu

A morning hike in search of mammals and birds. Return to the Lodge for lunch before departing for Lahad Datu. Take the late afternoon flight back to Kota Kinabalu to continue with your Borneo holiday on one of the pristine beaches.
