Borneo River and Rainforest Tour Overview

A combination of two of the best of Sabah: Sukau Rainforest Lodge and Borneo Rainforest Lodge (Danum Valley) including a stopover at Gomantong Caves. Explore the rainforest by riverboat in Sukau and on foot in Danum Valley. Loads of Wildlife, Birdlife and Pure Rainforests.

Day 1: Sepilok - Sukau Rainforest Lodge

On arrival at Sandakan Airport, transfer to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Walk ten minutes through the rainforest on wooden boardwalks to witness the feeding of the orangutan.

After lunch, transfer to Sandakan jetty for 2½ hours boat journey to the multi-award winning Sukau Rainforest Lodge along Sabah's longest river, Kinabatangan with an opportunity to view birds and wildlife. Take a river cruise in search of wildlife and birds. Enjoy candle light dinner overlooking the riverbank followed by a slide show and interpretation by a naturalist guide. Stay overnight at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

Day 2: Sukau Rainforest Lodge

Take a morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to Kelenanap oxbow lake to view more birds and wildlife. After breakfast, proceed for an educational tour along our Hornbill Boardwalk located behind the lodge with our in-house naturalist. In the afternoon, we proceed for another river cruise for more wildlife. Stay overnight at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

Day 3: Sukau - Gomantong - Borneo Rainforest Lodge

Proceed 27 km overland to Gomantong Caves. Trek 20 minutes through the rainforest to the cave entrance to learn about the cave faunas including bats, swiftlets, and crabs among others. When it is in the season, witness the collecting of birds' nests by the local people.

Proceed 2 hours overland to Lahad Datu for lunch. Drive 83 km to the award-winning nature lodge, Borneo Rainforest Lodge. Explore nature trail and nearby river. In the evening a slide show and if weather permits we go spotlighting to view some of the nocturnal animals. Stay overnight at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 4: Borneo Rainforest Lodge

Take an early morning bird walk. Spend the whole day exploring the forest for birds and mammals, leading up to an escarpment with ancient burial coffins. Trek to a waterfall for a refreshing dip in rock pools. In the afternoon, explore more trails leading to canopy walkway. Stay overnight at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 5: Departure

Morning trek in search of mammals and birds. Return to the Lodge before departing for Lahad Datu. Take the afternoon flight back to Kota Kinabalu.
