The Dales Way runs from Ilkley, a market town on the Eastern border of the Dales, and runs through Wharfedale and Dentdale to the Lake District, finishing in Bowness-on-Windermere on the shores of England's largest lake.
The Dales Way is a scenic, not too strenuous walk in beautiful scenery. It is primarily a riverside walk passing through market towns and ancient limestone villages . In between, the route crosses shorter sections of moorland, fell sides and limestone pavement making the route varied and peaceful.
The Yorkshire Dales has a characteristic landscape of limestone dry stone walls and isolated field barns. There are charming historic limestone villages and hamlets scattered through the steep sided valleys.
