It was a small tour group of only four people, and so we were able to interact extensively with our excellent guide, Nota, who is an Athenian with a lot of knowledge and a lot of passion for the history of her home region. Accommodation for the week was in a lovely hotel in central Athens with an excellent view of the Acropolis. Highlights for my wife and I were visits to Eleusis and the shrine of Demeter and Persephone, the coastal fortress of Aigosthena, Marathon, the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum.
Rating for tour operator:This was our second tour with Peter Sommers Travel. Both have been excellent, with very good communication prior to the tour from the moment of expressing interest. We know that Peter Sommers Travel tours will be well organised, will have excellent and knowledgeable guides, and that they will proactively deal with any issues that arise during the tour. We plan to book future tours with them.
Very satisfying
This was a perfect follow-up to Cruising to the Cyclades, consolidating and expanding on what we had seen and learned. It was also a pleasure to explore contemporary Athens with our knowledgeable guide. Our hotel was excellent and well located for independent exploration.

Rating for tour operator:Low-key efficiency, perfect logistics, no add-on costs

The visits to the National Archaeological Museum and the Acropolis Museum, as well as several smaller ones, were fascinating. Museums can be overwhelming, but our guides pointed out the most significant items and explained their context and meaning. The organization of the tour and the accommodations were excellent and the meals, superb. Our 2 guides, both archaeologists, were enormously knowledgeable, did a wonderful job of sharing their knowledge, and were charming companions, as well. Now, for gods's sake (Athena and Poseidon, in particular). give them back their Marbles!
Rating for tour operator:Peter Sommer Travel was a pleasure to work with. The were helpful and prompt with all my inquiries and helpful with additional arrangements. I would be happy to go on one of their tours again.
