The scenery was so varied so every day was a little but different, and we felt like The Mountain Company's itinerary was perfect to make sure we were all acclimatised and absolutely fine for crossing the 5100m Larkya Pass at the end. Having never done a multi-day trek before, I was expecting the trekking to be far more challenging than it actually was, which was a pleasant surprise! What I really loved about the Manaslu Circuit was that it was still quite quiet compared to many of the other Nepal treks, so you really feel at one with nature and not just stuck in traffic jams of tourists!

Rating for tour operator:

The Mountain Company were amazing - Roland makes sure that you have all the information you could possibly need in advance, and you don't have to think about anything while on the trek. All the guides and porters were so lovely, kind and a lot of fun - so you feel like a big family! Having been on a biking trip in Mustang with a different tour operator straight after the trek, I realised just how great The Mountain Company guides and porters are in comparison. We couldn't recommend more highly!

Overall, an amazing and unforgettable adventure in this part of the Himalayas. Tough circuit but the itinerary was just about right for good acclimatisation. Great bunch of trekkers and fantastic crew who looked after us all with safety in mind.

We had a fabulous trip around the Manaslu Circuit in October/November 2023. The scenery was amazing from beginning to end, starting from the last (currently) drivable bit of the road heading north from the Kathmandu/Pokhara highway. The circuit starts with fairly long days through warm green valleys with large villages and lots of local life. As we got higher, the days got more relaxed, and the landscapes changed, with bigger mountains, autumn colours and the transition into buddhist areas. The whole trip builds up to a crossing of Larke Pass, but while that felt like the objective, it never felt like the days leading up to it were just an approach - every day we saw new things, and it was much more varied than we had expected beforehand.

The Mountain Company were great to work with beginning to end. Roland provided us with advice for us to make decisions about which trek might suit us best (we also considered the Dhaulagiri Circuit), and when to go - the later dates were rewarded with excellent weather. Despite being a small group of three trekkers we had an excellent group of four local Nepali guides and porters. The logistics were seamless, at every step the guides knew what needed to be done, and at the beginning and end a driver was always in the right place.

Wonderful Manaslu

I completed the Manaslu Circuit, taking 11 days out of an 18 day visit to Nepal actually trekking. This was the first time I'd walked above 1000m so reaching the Larke Pass at 5106m was a step into the unknown for 60+ me, but this is a fantastic holiday at every altitude including the drives and hotels stays which bookend the trek. The Mountain Company looked after me and every detail in the holiday.

We had an absolutely brilliant experience trekking the Manaslu Circuit, Nepal. Awesome scenery amongst relatively remote mountain communities with enough challenge to make the trip even more rewarding but at the same time we were very well organised and prepared for the experience.

The Mountain Company takes great care to provide detailed advance information prior to the trip and provided first class support during the trek. Any queries are responded to and advice given very promptly and on a personal basis. I believe we were one of the best organised groups on the trek at the time. Timely support with an accurate forecast was a key difference in our successful crossing of the high pass. Overall, I was very impressed with the whole experience thanks in large part to the skills of The Mountain Company team in general and to Roland Hunter in particular

Having recently returned from a wonderful trip round the Manaslu Circuit, I found The Mountain Company to be extremely well organised with great communication from from first contact right through til we got home. Feedback was sought and taken into consideration using each client to improve for the next. The guides and porters used were of the highest quality with each having proper equipment and were all extremely attentive. The guide spoke excellent English making communication easy and we had a lot of fun as a group. It was also very reassuring to have an assistant guide too despite being a small group and is something that sets The Mountain Company apart from other outfits which take much bigger groups with only one guide. Having two meant that we could all walk at our pace safely. We appreciated that the porters were well kitted out, included at meal times and came (voluntarily!) on acclimation walks with us. Again, many groups kept their porters separate which made us feel very uncomfortable so it was nice to be able to share a drink altogether every day. Due to inclement weather and many landslides just before we started, the trail was considerably changed from the itinerary but this just demonstrates the unpredictable nature of trekking and couldn’t be helped. The trip was pretty well paced with ample time for acclimatisation. We saw many other groups struggling over the landslides and coming down from the high pass and we were grateful to always feel safe and comfortable with our guide who we all trusted. I would say that microspikes as a minimum are absolutely crucial on this trek. We saw some nasty accidents and falls of people who didn’t have the proper equipment so make sure to read the kit list properly and utilise Roland who is always willing to help with kit advice - take it!! As this was a tea house trek, the lodges were basic but safe and food was plentiful if a little repetitive. Taking some snacks from home was welcomed along the daily trail! The Manaslu trek is a real treat, moving through many different cultural areas and giving opportunity to interact with local people. The scenery changes every day from the lowland gorge, the to highland villages up to the Tibetan plateau and finally the high pass. The views each day of the big peaks are spectacular! I would say that it is a physically challenging trek with the unpredictability of the trail. I appreciated having a high level of fitness level and a lot of walking experience on this trek. Definitely use all your kit before you go so that you know it’s comfortable and that includes being used to carrying a daypack! Overall I would recommend the Manaslu circuit to anyone looking for a varied and spectacular trek. I am already looking forward to my next Himalayan trek which will be with The Mountain Company as I’m not sure how they could be bettered.

Rating for tour operator:

I would highly recommend The Mountain Company to anyone looking for a well organised and high quality trekking trip. Their repeat clients are a testament to the quality they offer and having been recommended them I was not disappointed.

Brilliant Trek

We did the Manaslu Circuit Trek in April 2019, and it was one of the best experiences we've ever had. The Trek itself is absolutely stunning. The scenery we passed through on a day-to-day basis was exceptional, and the trek was quiet and remote. It was hard work, with some long days of walking, but we wanted a challenge and it felt so good to complete it.

The Mountain Company were great, particularly before we went on the trek - they helped us to prepare and answered any questions we had really quickly with helpful advice. We had never been on a long trek before, but Roland told us what we could expect and how best to prepare. They were really well equipped in terms of safety, and we always felt well looked after.

We were blessed with beautiful weather for the 2 week trek. The scenery along the route was spectacular as we passed through many small villages where people still live largely traditional lives. We encountered friendly Nepalese people and lots of wildlife, including marmots and blue sheep. The walk itself is challenging, but well within the capabilities of someone who maintains a very good level of physical fitness. The terrain has many up and downs, culminating with the climb up to Larkya La at 5106 metres. This was the first time I had stayed in tea houses, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Rooms are clean and spacious and there is a comprehensive menu from which to choose. I was lucky in that my 2 trekking companions were an extremely nice couple and very good walkers to boot. We also met up along the route with fellow trekkers from many nations, and with whom we established a great rapport. We had a fantastic Nepalese crew in the Leader; Khadka, Assistant guide: Khampu, Porters: Parbat and Dil. Nothing was too much trouble for the guys. They did everything to ensure that we had both an enjoyable and safe holiday. Thank you to all of them. Thoroughly recommend this trip with The Mountain Company.

This was my 2nd trek with the Mountain Company, having done their Kanchenjunga Trek 12 months previously, and which I loved. I once again found The Mountain Company to be extremely professional and helpful. Their website gives comprehensive information about the trek itself and informative reports from previous treks. My email enquiries to Roland were always answered very promptly, giving loads of helpful information. The organisation at the Kathmandu end was first rate as well. Airport transfers went smoothly, and accommodation and meals at Hotel Tibet were first rate. Thank you to Tulsi and Prashant. Once the trek itself started the Nepalese crew excelled. Nothing was too much trouble. They were friendly and diligent and very patient in doing everything to ensure that we had a fantastic experience in their beautiful country. And they succeeded. Thank you to Khadka, Khampu, Parbat and Dil. I would thoroughly recommend The Mountain Company. They do everything in a professional manner from start to finish, and have a longstanding and well earned reputation for putting trekkers safety above all else. They leave nothing to chance and don't rush or do things by half measure. We had 2 acclimatisation days once we reached altitude. This proved to be extremely beneficial when it came time to tackle the pass. Even though this was a tea house trek, our porters carried 2 tents to cater for any unforeseen emergencies, and even though there were only 3 trekkers and 4 Nepalese crew. As I mentioned above this was probably my most enjoyable trek. A major reason for that can be attributed to the expertise of The Mountain Company at the London and Kathmandu ends, and then of course on the ground during the trek itself.
